I think there are plenty of others in the line up (apart from Sass's 10) who will fancy their chances and prospects of making the last few rounds. I think when Shaggy won it, he was a 14/1 shot, and that shows you the standard of player lining up a few years back at JFK's.

Bottom line is, the tournament this year is the most 'open' it ever has been and the 10 named in the poll will all know they probably won't ever have a better chance of winning it. I reckon there will be a few upsets, always are a few surprises.

The draw tonight will play a big part....

Looking at Sass's list of her ten favourites, the only one I'd change would be Gary Swettenham. I think Danny Taggart would be a much more likely candidate.

Even when bladdered, as he will be by 3pm.

I reckon the year I won it there were about 15-20 players that would be thought of as being favourite in matches against me. I had a good draw that day in as much as I didnt draw anyone that I would consider as being better than me until the final, although I played a few of similar standard. Lots of the better players were beaten by other good players. In addition I played incredibly well that day, and probably havent played anything like it since

If you are looking at the equivalent of players capable in relation to field strength it could be the likes of a Truan or a Telford coming through the field to win, which is certainly not an impossibility. If say those two were 14/1 I am sure both of them would have in their mind that they would expect to win this event if there were 14 comps with the same field.

From my perspective if their were 6 identical events, id expect to win or get very near to winning one of them.

The players already mentoned would be similar, except cookie who would probably win 1 in 3/4.

As The Power (Grrr) has said the draw is all important and it may mean a player getting to the 1/4's without breaking to much of a sweat.

That's odd that you should say that as I when I went down the list I actually took Taggs out to put Swetts in. Mainly based on the fact that I don't think Danny is all that well known in Croydon. No matter how he does he is one of very few players who is good to watch.

When his dishes come off they are usually totally ridiculous and make Rod Atlas look like Trevor Herbert

He doesnt have a bad record in longer frame matches especially in World Champ Qualifiers. Alcohol, break dancing and whether he can actually be assed are the only issues. Very talented player on his day and he can certainly beat anyone in the field.

This years comp does seem a lot more open (Although i only recognise the Croydon players) - Just seeing no Halligan/Altes etc gives us mere mortals a hope,

I could never expect to win a comp of this type but a few frames practice may just do me the world of good in actually stringing a sucsession of pots together

In my opinion an in-form Paul Wildman would have a major chance
anyone offering a price ?

Ray Scott has just paid as a reserve and early indications suggest that if there any any further no-shows then he will be in and will certainly have an impact on who wins what . .

Not that I know of . . There are three paid reserves and two no-shows that we've been made aware of . . We've kept the original names in the hat jus tin case their circumstances change but there were quite a few last year so it wouldn't surprise me if there were further no-shows . .

There's always a few, things coming up at the last minute etc. Really looking forward to this, providing there is no fire between now and then that requires 40 fire engines...!! big grin
