CSL IV is nearly here . .
We're finalising the details and have had confirmation from existing CSLIII players and those who approached me to go on the provisional list.
Rileys Purley Way - Thursday Nights - 8pm Start
Start Date: Thursday 23rd April 09 (St.George?s Day)
?40 Entry + ?2 Per Player, Per Fixture
Three Divisions of Ten Players, as listed below.]
This season, due to the increase in players, there will also be a KO Cup as well as the usual Plate. Full details will be issued nearer the time, along with a full fixture list
Please confirm your place by posting in this thread. This holds your place until the cut-off date.
Please pay your ?40 entry fee to either Hannah (Rileys PW) or Mark Stallard (Goodfellas) to confirm your space (if you want to pay the extra ?18 for the fixtures, you can, which saves me hassling you every week for ?2). Once you?ve paid, let me know so I can keep this list as up-to-date as possible.
Can all players also PM me their mobile numbers, as this makes notifications a lot easier. Thanks.
IF YOU?RE ON THE LIST, WE NEED YOUR ENTRY MONEY (?40) BY THURSDAY 16 APRIL. AFTER THAT DATE, ANY UNPAID PLAYERS? SPACES WILL BE OPEN TO THOSE ON THE PROVISIONAL LIST.
N.B. THERE'LL BE NO I.O.U.'s SO GET YOUR MONEY IN BEFORE THE DATE TO AVOID MISSING OUT.

If I can start my matches at 8.15-8.30 then please put me on the provisional list. I'd rather be upfront and say that I can't regularly start at 8 rather than turn up late every week.

I shouldn't think that'd be a problem for most people, although obviously would be an exception.
You're on the provisional list, so you may be in with a chance if people don't pay up in time.

Ok people, I'm off on holiday from tomorrow and I'll be back in the country on Sunday 19th. Anyone wanting to pay their entry fee before the deadline can do so to Hannah and the crew at Riley's PW, as I obviously won't be about to take your cash.
I'll still be online from time to time while I'm away, so I can check up on payment progress, as well as pick up PM's and emails. Any problems, please drop me a message before I get back, as the whole thing kicks off only 4 days after my return, so I'm hoping there won't be too many loose ends to sort out by the time I get home. Bear in mind, though, that PM's and emails will be easier and cheaper as phoning me while I'm abroad will costs us both a fortune.
See you all on my return.

Here's a question for you Mark:
Yesterday I noticed that Darren Porter had been shuffled up to the premier league (having finished 4th in Div 1), and Knocky was on the reserve list.
I then look at the lists tonight and find that Knocky has been put straight into the premier and Darren has been put back down. Why has this happened?
I know that Knocky's ability warrants that kind of spot, and I'm sure that Darren would possibly prefer playing in Div 1 as he will have more chance of being in the money spots, but I'm just interested to know how these decisions are made?
P.S. If we do meet Knocky, I will give you one hell of a match!! :D:

Knocky played in the first two and only missed the last one due to work. I think it's fair enough to shuffle him up to Div 1.

Maybe I was just thinking of the league format where if you miss a season, you have to start from the bottom again. I'm not disputing Knocky's class or commitment, and he will certainly add more quality to the premier. It's just going to take a bit more effort from me now to win all that money!! :D::D:
Thanks Mark for texting me and explaining the situation so quickly.

I thought this question would be raised..
Darren was not promoted to the Premier, having finished 4th last season. He was ?shuffled up? as Rob McDonnell pulled out, leaving a space to be filled. As with CDPL, shuffled up positions are not guaranteed until the season starts.
Knocky was in CSL1 and 2 and was in the Premier both seasons. As I have mentioned, I am currently on holiday but have been in email contact and discussion with the organsisers of previous CSLs (Andy Esgrove and Sean Kelly) regarding who should start where etc.
Knocky should be in the Premier, without a doubt and therefore Darren was shuffled back down to his original finshing position. It was an early decision to keep all promotions and relegations in place and to also honour survival. We would not, for example, have demoted Mick Huggins (the next lowest finisher in the Prem) to make way for Knocky if there had not been a space already created by Rob pulling out (and temporarily filled by shuffling up, to maintain numbers).
John Hoy is a different situation. He has ability, granted, but hasn?t actually played competitive 8 ball for a couple of years, on our understanding, so we have no way to gauge his potential in this competition. As for suggestions he will destroy Div.2, this remains to be seen. Don?t underestimate the likes of John Prothero and Tom Telford etc to give him plenty of trouble along the way.
If we had put John in Div.1, we?d have to ?shuffle down? one from Mick Saunders, Andy Telford or Martyn Drinkwater (honouring survival, as mentioned). If we did that, people would then say that the chosen demotee would also ?destroy? the lower division. We know the ability of these players, wherea John has been off the 8 ball scene for long enough to be deemed an unknown (sorry, John, I know you not an unknown but you know what I mean).
I hope everyone can see we?ve tried to be as fair as possible.

Well can't Mark go to Rileys and pay his money after today and whoever hasn't paid will be replaced. After all thats what the original post says.
There are exceptions, if you've told Mark you will pay on a certain date (ie. teach, miq), but if someone hasn't bothered paying on time, or contacted Mark, and MM pays before, then will they be replaced?

The vast majority of people have contacted me, one way or another, to let me know when they are paying the money in. The problem is with the few who haven?t as I know some of them do not use the website so may not know about the deadline, mainly due to me not being around to hassle them at Riley?s. I did send a PM to everyone on the list who uses the site and included a message to some to pass on to team mates. The original idea of booting everyone out after the deadline would have worked better (and easier) if I was around to enforce it and chase people up who don?t use the website.
For this reason, although the rule is there, I?m loathed to enforce it to the letter as I have not spoken with some of the people involved. It would be like me sending out a last minute change of playing day by text and kicking out those who didn?t turn up because I didn?t have their mobile number.
So far, I have not had confirmation of payment date from:
Premier
Francois Tertullien
Division One
Scott Bradwell
Division Two
Shane St.Romaine
Scott Slattery
Peter Knight

As I mentioned before, there are no flexible spaces left in the Premier but, even if there were, Mark was actually relegated from the Premier in CSL2, so it?s fair to put him in Div.1.
Mind you, I might eat my words after I?ve played him :D:

A CDPL Singles finalist? I don't think he will be that happy unless he just wants the money, but knowing Mark he would rather play at his standard.
Maybe in future leagues it could be seeded by your position in the singles league. That way you are (almost) guaranteed to play at your level.
Posted by Fat-Dart on 19-04-2009 01:19

There weren?t any more flexible spaces in the Premier anyway.
Maybe you?d be happy to play to keep your Premier spot, only to then be told "Sorry, mate, but someone else has entered and they?re better than you so you?re relegated anyway", but I know Mick Huggins wouldn?t be!
It?s impossible to please everyone, there?s always someone who should possibly be in a different division. If the players were the same every season, the standard promotion/relegation system would work perfectly but it doesn?t work like that when each season has different players involved.
If Mark plays as well as we know he can, he?ll be in the Premier again next season but this time round he?s division one.

Martin, I see your point, but you must be confident enough of beating anyone? Look at John Hoy, he will p!ss the bottom div guaranteed , no disrespect to the others. As Mark says there is no way of pleasing everyone...just win your games and happy days.:D:

Mark will be shuffled up again on the basis of his singles record. John is, as I've already said on here, deemed an unknown as he hasn't played competitive 8 ball for ages.
I've heard from several people saying John will p1ss the division but surely, if people go in with that attitude, they can only expect to get beaten. Everyone is beatable, you just have to believe you can do it, or you've lost before your cue is out the box.

Mark, i've sent Martyn a PM to let him know Mark Vincent won't be able to make the first game tommoro. I've given him Marks number to re-schedule it, but if you could let him know if you have his number, incase he doesn't come online (or anyone else who reads this and has his number). Cheers!

Just noticed the CSL website has been finalised with the new fixtures. Been looking forward to this since the final frame of the last one so should be good.

As you are all aware, CSL IV starts tomorrow.
The matches should start at 8pm but, as it's the first week and there's admin to sort out, it's best if everyone gets there a bit early to get this sorted first, then everyone can crack on with their matches without me keep interrupting to give copies of fixtures and schedules, demand money with menaces etc.
