Surely there is now an argument to play more frames in singles and doubles. With the increase in tables in clubs there is seldom 10 people at a one table venue to be a time nightmare, and because the rules are so attacking, even best of 7 would not be a guaranteed win. I mistake and its all over, is that the way the singles champion should be decided? Discuss!

Agree with Paul above, was @ RPW last night and there were quite a few unused tables, maybe best of 5 in the first three rounds, increasing to best of 7 onwards? Could be a problem at a venue like ours in Bromley though as we've only got one table if we have three players drawn at home.

Ok, here's another one for discussion:

Singles & Doubles early rounds played to best of 3.

Coin toss decides on who breaks first. If it goes to a decider, the coin is tossed again.

That being the case, the first toss is pointless. You have to play at least 2 frames anyway so both players get a break.

Would it not make more sense to just just have the one coin toss at the start and the winner gets the advantage regardless of if there's a 3rd frame or not?

Completely agree. You have to win 2 tosses to have any advantage. Based on probability the person who wins the first toss is likely to lose the 2nd and therefore be at a disadvantage.

I know of no singles competiton anywhere in the country where the winner of the toss/lag doesn't break last (should they choose to break first, obviously!).

One minute shot rule is not used in the singles and therefore matches are still taking time to play, if there was a way of introducing the minute shot then maybe increase frames. Only RPW has the tables available. Other venues would not cope in the early rounds with longer frame distance.

Best of three is not ideal with world rules but the current format does still throw up the occasional shock result and I would vote against a change. Maybe increasing frame distance from QF's onwards but I think increased distance early doors will detract the lower league players from entering.

Just take a look at the Surrey Classic format and the interest so far to that event. Main reason has to be frame distance in the matches, it gives the lesser known players a bigger chance over a three frame format, and will in turn make the better players feel a little more tense. As a result there will be some shock exits. Apart from supporting the Croydon Open each year I don't enter any other event but even I was tempted to throw my name into the hat because the format appeals.

Andre Cox 1 - Grant Strutt 2 A simple missed black in the first frame nearly cost me the match, Andre should have won the 3rd but snookered himself on his final ball. Good quality game, unlucky Andre.

Rod Altes (Coach & Horses) 1 - 2 Paul Picton (Farley Loyalists)

Not a classic by any means, I should have had the first frame,...didn't. Rod should have had the second frame,...didn't. I squeezed the last frame after the black ran safe from Rod. I think the turnig point was in the second frame, Rod had a ball bounce back onto the table, the Supreme Curse he called it, from which if it had of stayed in would have been 2-0 to him.
