The play offs for Division 1 Singles/Runners up will take place at The Farley, Thornton Heath on Tuesday 17/05

They will be between:

Tony Jackson - The Patriots v Metin Tomris - The Eagles
Ricky Cook - The Patriots v Gary Swettenham - The Propeller

Cant believe there is a play-off for this,we turn up week in week out for our teams,have a good season then could lose what we have played for on a 1 frame ko basis.Actually u could lose with the toss of a coin,considering the players that are left. Makes a mockery of the divisional singles.

Before there were runners up trophies there were definately many occasions that the trophy was shared. However the league did provide only one trophy and the cost of the additonal trophies were shared between the players involved. Was this offered as an option????

And in all honesty a Divisonal Title that only takes into account only half the games you are capable of playing is a bit of a mockery in itself anyway.

Not everyone plays twice everyweek,paul. so i understand y its done on first games only. And no it wasnt offered as an option.

For sure, almost every league I know use percentages win minimum frame criteria. In reality you can win 50% of your games and actually be classed as being unbeaten.

My idea of the best player is the person that contributtes the most to the team to try to win the league andour system doesn;t necessarily support that. Saying that with the names at the top of the divisons this year I am sure that most of them will also have a very good second frame record. Just a thought.

In addition more frames has its merits, but the thing that tickles me is that their is a draw to play each other. Surely a 4 way round robin will be more appropriate if its played at all. At least its still a league format and will mean an additonal frame each.

I would of thought it would of been a round robin. Yet the draw has been done,surely that shouldve been done on the night. Something smells fishy about all this.

If im honest i was kind of looking forward to the knockout just for the buzz of it but do think that whoever loses will still say they won the individuals so its a bit meaningless for that reason.
Round Robin would be a better format if its done....Skelly had a idea for the trophy side of things and im sure everyone in eagles would agree the we would happily give our trophies up for that league cup semi match we lost to make the other 2 trophies if knowone wants to play. I dont mind either way!!

While we're on the topic of div singles alterations, surely you should get a greater reward for winning a frame in the 1st or 10th frame then someone who wins in the 7th frame....

Ben- i c where your comin from but no and i played at no1 all season and dont agree, the quality is usually similar throughout the team so doesnt make a difference even if its the hardest position at number1 (not 10 though)

Must be different in different divisions then. I played in div 3 and the guys at the top of div singles are not the best guys in the league.

Thats a bit harsh ben,old hersey can play a bit and his played in div 1.Saxton is also up there,he can bore u to tears but can still play the game. Div 1 standard is good,but if u gotta team with a regular 8 or 9 players the weaker ones are normally at the end.

Wasnt singling anyone out and was looking at some of the people lower down that should be higher rather then the other way round but I guess not everyone can be at the top. However I think most people would agree that there is a greater range of talent in the leagues other then div 1 therefore making it harder to beat a teams number 1 them their number 7. Although I make Metin right in the sense that there is quality throughout most div 1 teams making each frame as hard as the next.

Most of us have played in the lower leagues ben,and most of us want to play better pool. It has certainly helped me playing better players week in week out. Althogh i wouldnt put met up there.

ok well that puts jacko/swetts fav as they r fudgetastic!! needs to be a longer nite which im sure we can sort out between us on the nite. if we are playing this then maybe do 2 frames round robin, each get a break each and the 1 with the most frames wins.
But i am dead against this whole thing now because it has become even more of a lottery!
Lets just flip a coin and be done with it!!

i would have thought draw the 4 names out the hat with a best of 3 and a break each if it goes to 1-1 then flick for deciding break winner's of the 2 groups then play for winners and runners up....!

you can't have 4 winners, 2 yes but not 4!
each week you play the one frame so you can't suddenly make it best of 3, 5, 7 etc
i do agree a round robin should decide it rather than a k.o. but you still might not get an outright winner

it's obviously something that needs to be thought about in the future, maybe if level then it goes on your 2 frame wins?

it's a bit unfair that it's not at a more neutral venue...

Lots of interesting comments about changes to the competition set up ...... I'm just wondering whether something concrete will be prepared for a proposal in September where changes can be made as they cannot be made by opinions on here but Andy Esgrove seems to be on the right lines with his train of thought!!

I had a conversation with Mark via email, and I confirmed that we (The Eagles) would forfeit our League Cup Semi Final Trophies to compensate for the cost of getting 4 joint winners trophies for the Individuals.

I think finishing top of the 1st division over the course of the Winter League is a far greater achievement than getting booted in the semi's of the cup, and thus deserves to be honoured.

Met's one of ours too, so it's a means to an end, although I know Met was relishing getting the bus over TH for 1 frame :-)
