The forms for the 2008 Croydon Summer League are floating about amongst the secretaries so now is the time to spill the beans on any potential transfers and new teams or at least get the rumour mill going ;)

I didn't think the Eden Cues had a summer team any more?

I can confirm that i have witnessed Fluffy in the Edens company a few times lately but, it could be all quiet innocent...
Would have thought if there was anything to report The Power would have told us all by now...

We withdraw from the summer last season and lost our status in the process. We'll be putting a team into the lower divisions for this summer campaign.

We're gonna help the locals in the Deer get themselves up and running for the summer, with maybe a couple of our lads joining them for spiritual guidance and wisdom.
A lot of teams / potential teams will be waiting for the outcome of thursdays meeting before signing I should imagine.

With talk of new teams and tranfers - it's good timing for me to raise an issue that's been causing me a problem for a while now:
We all know that The Surrey Cricketers does not have much to offer when it comes to cueing around the table - I presume that most of you have noticed this :ohmygod: And we can't keep using the "foods good" excuse!
With this in mind and the fact that over the last couple of years we have lost John Broadway, who emigrated, Simon Brooks, who retired to the coast and Macca who just done a runner - we recruited some of the locals from the pub, but as this season is proving we are not contending as well as we have done in the past.
So for the forthcoming summer league, I would like to find a new venue and maybe a couple of new signings - Pat Heard-White has threatend to come out of retirement and join us - but in addition to this, I would like to try and get a bit of strength and experience back in the squad.
So if anyone can offer solution to the new venue in the first instance, and secondly if anyone wants to consider joining The 193's for the summer, please let me know.
Cheers - Andy.

Dont want to start any rumours but, a lot of people you would not expect to see in Thornton Heath on a Wednesday night where spotted celebrating...
My sources ( usually pretty spot on ) assure me that photograph evidence can be produced at a price...
I have agreed to pay the price...
It may be all quiet innocent...
So its only right to let everyone come to their own conclusions...
Watch this space...

I have been asked to post this picture by an anonymous source to quash rumours that Fluffy
isn't signing for the Eden . .
Looks pretty conclusive to me . .

It's funny that all these pictures are on this thread . .
. . I've just this weekend caught wind of rumours that a former #1 Ranked player looks odds on to join The Propeller for this Summer's campaign . .
In addition I hear that Luke Turnbull has signed early papers for The Eagles 2008/2009 campaign . .
In other news I hear that we've just signed the legend that is John Frith from the Foreign Legion in a last minute deadline day swoop . .

I can announce some breaking news from the Farley camp. Marc Burnett will be making a return to the Croydon league after a lay off of a few seasons, and Burn has re-signed for the Farley Eden.
Also, the pot machine that is Liam Connors will return for the Eden for the summer campaign.
And Dan - that was :lame:, and I'm really not sure what they put in those lemonades these days at Rileys but even I never had you down for posting outrageously 'fictitious' information...

Or even fictitious information . .
. . is that the same Marc Burnett whose prior Eden Cues record was P5 W1 L4 and then left?
You have the transfer prowess of David O'Leary

The stats don't lie but in the grand scheme of things its summer stats and lets face it they are not worth the paper they are written on....
What does matter though is when Marc announced he would be back as he had 'unfinished' business with the Eden. He meant it and moreover he has stood by his word....
I recall you saying those same words 'once upon a time'......:fish:

I can only apologise . . I didn't realise how good I was going to become between then and now ;)
Anyway . . It's taken Burn 3 years to think about playing the remaining 13 games he committed to so that gives me plenty of time to throw a few your way . . Fieldsy said if he doesn't sign for The Prop then to join him at the Eden some time . . He did say that he runs the show these days and I have no reason to doubt him so I'll have a chat with him in due course . .

I guess one of those 'how good' moments came when you crashed out of the 2007 Qualifiers for the JFK's Masters......

No I was quite evidently rubbish then . . That goes without saying . . It was during a time when for some reason I was more concerned with organising the game rather than playing it . .
. . needless to say I have since made amends

Making amends when winning the Croydon Open with half the field away in Yarmouth..........:fish:

Yeah it was tough but someone had to do it . . How did you do in that btw? You must have done well seeing as half the field were away in Yarmouth . . Yeah of course you did . . I won't check the results . . No need . . Nope . . None . . Zero . .

Anyway . . Getting back on topic . . Fieldsy tells me that he didn't mean what he said last night and that I should learn not to eavesdrop on other people's phone conversations so all's well that ends well :)

When you have some 'factual' information Dan, let me know.....
Otherwise, surely even you would excuse me for just being slightly too mature for these silly schoolboy games....

John Goldsmith coming back??? Not sure how he'll adapt to the rule changes, but one of the very best players that has been in this league.

My doubles partner for 3 years he was an exceptional player he taught Rod how to play. suspect attitude was his ONLY weakness if John is genuine about returning and plays every week and is even half as good as he was will be a major coup (he played for us for about 4 seasons including our first treble winning side)

Aren't you playing in Div 5?
Surely you can win that division even with the 'average' squad you have all ready......

He had nothing else better to do other than play with his winkle so came along for the craic . .
. . he then decides Division 5 = Treble on every ball and turns the match into a circus

I had the pleasure of meeting the legent that is Goldsmith last night . . Nice to finally put a face to so many stories I've heard . . Seems like a really nice bloke . . Has some great chat and can certainly play the game even after an 11 year absence! Cues the ball as well as most players who play week in week out at the moment . . I guess class is permanent after all!
If he can get his head around the rules it's only a matter of time before he's making some noise once again . .
