So what are peoples first impression to the new format?
It's early days for this bold new adventure, and it will take a while for people to get used to it, and develop strategies of how they want to play their team order, but feedback is always welcome.
Our match went very smoothly. It helped that we played the Rack Pack who we know and love, so it was all very easy and relaxed.

New format works for the BeachTree. We had 9 players turn up yesterday so everyone got a game. Much better than having to tell players who turn up week in/week out that they can't play.
Squad rotation is gone - Finally.

Just out of curiosity, what time did your matches finish last night?
Ours started at 8:30pm and was done by 10pm and that included two or three tactical frames . .

At 9.15 we were still on the second game. Finished about 10.45 I think.

We didn't break off on time, just after 8.30pm and the match was finished around 10.20ish. New format allowed us to give everyone present a game, with a couple of us having two frames last night. Not sure we will adopt the same policy in the Cup, though you do have the added bonus of waying up the situation after the 1st set.
Our opponents last night turned up with only 6 players (which is the turn out they had for most of last Winter season) so new format certainly works for them.

We didn't start till about 8:40ish, but were finished by 10:40, with a long break in between to eat our chicken kebabs.

Have to take your hats off to the Farley Loyalists. Left Thornton Heath at 7.45pm for the return trip to Biggin Hill, 10 frames later, they are back (victorious) in the pub at 11.15pm.....

We started at 8.40ish and finished about 10.30....
To be honest it was nice to be playing all night, rather than finsihing at 9.20 or something.
I woul prefer it if you could play the players in any order, but that is what the trial is all about.

HAHA... Its clearly stated on the cards the order you need to play if your the away team for the next group of 5.
People playing twice in one set of 5 is crazy!

I have to be honest, I would prefer this format, if a team has more than 5 players, then everyone can get a game. I've seen this format work really well in sunny Wales, where I used to live, many moon years ago!!

This is defo the way forward and we need to make sure this rule extends into the winter league as early as poss.Everybody gets a game no brainer

I like the new format
the only prob is if u play a tactical side it could go on all night
buts thats the same with the other format as well
like when we played the Thicket the other night
the game didnt finish till 11 30 pm

I think it's more a problem when you get 2 players who don't know what they are doing and therefore struggle to develop the game. That's when it can take longer than it should.

I do think that it is sensible to play as many games as possible, but I still think that there is no justification for the two-set format. As you can see,all four games played in division 2 last Tuesday finished up as draws .What a bore !! There should be an odd number of games to ensure a winner whether or not there is a win bonus !! It should be like a cup match. If the score is 5-5,one player from each side is selected to play a one frame play-off !!Minimum Team complement to remain as 5 !! I also do not think that it matters where a player elects to play his two games. What difference does it make ? :wall:

Penalty shootout at 5-5
Black ball on its spot, 5 players from each team take turns to put the cue ball anywhere along the baulk line and try to pot the black.
Make the game more fun thats what pool needs.

I couldn't be bothered to start a new thread......
What happens tomorrow night in the team Knockout Cup if it goes to 5 - 5?
Apologies if this question has already been asked.

So . . We've played at least 4 matches, including a KO Cup match where we have a 1-frame playoff . .
. . how are you all finding it so far?
Prefer it? Hate it? Like the fact you can easily play with 5 as much as 10? Like the one frame playoff? Like the new match distance? Finding it's running over timewise?

It's got everyone talking, which is a good thing.
I personally like the format.
I also like the newly established flexibilty with reagards to the playing order, and would prefer to see it stay that way if honest.
So long as the same two people don't play eachother, no worries.
I think it could do with a one man play off at the end of a 5-5 to determine a winner, as it's nice to feel victorious.
Time wise it's better. You get more pool for your evening, the landlords and club owners benefit from that aswell, and there is flexibility there for those who need it.

Think the new structure works out well. We had 5 turn up for the first section last night, one left to go to work and another turned up at the same time the other was leaving tp play the 2nd half.
Timewise we were all done by 9.20..all out attack play with no safeties/fudging in sight

10 frames by 9:20pm :O:

Don't know how it happens, but so far 9.40 finish against the Folly, 10 against the Big Spuds and 9.20 yesterday against Chopper Squad. Heck our old games of 7 used to take longer, so if it speeds up everyones game, we're all for it.

I too like the format. However, we need an extra game if its 5-5 if bonus points are still in play come the winter.

In the Farley singles league, the matches are best of 8 with 3 bonus points for a win and 1 bonus point a piece for a draw. Is there any reason why this couldn't be introduced?
The other option could be instead of the play-off at 5-5, the secretaries game could be used as the 11th game.

I personally like the format as is, but as for playing an extra frame for glory would be wrong.
what I would like to see introduced is a scoring system the same as the football league, I,E 3pts per win 1pt per draw.Using the frame won and lost in the for and against column.:gossip
This i feel would make for an even more exciting league.
As for all knockouts there need be no need for any changes.
