Playing killer with a glass in the middle could get messy, a plastic ashtray always works better!
are you playing it with a deck of cards so its random?

Fair point Sean - ash tray it is!

Yep, will be with playing cards I think thats the best way to play killer

This comp has been oversubscribed for years. Why the ?10, ?12-50 after nonsense. Not necessary in my opinion This will fill standing on your head!

Keep with the standard, take reserves, no money back to payers who pull out scenario. Extra money smacks of events that require that bonus to meet a prize fund.

Whats the guaranteed or not guaranteed prize fund by the way?

Remember the Croydon format was copied by Surrey and others. Why fuck with it for the flagship event????

Officially there will not be any poker as there are so many other events on, but unofficially things may change on the day

It was actually the same last year or maybe the year before. Whenever it was noone paid ?12.50 so maybe it did its job which was to get the money in quick.

I've been told there may not be a ladies event which is surprising as we've had good turnouts in the past. Can you please add me to the list if there is one please.

There is now a ladies event which is open to the first 16 ladies to pay their entry fee. The original article on the homepage has been updated.

Let us know if you want to take part.

Just out of interest why is an "OPEN" actually restricted to the point where potentially no one outside of the league can enter if the spaces all fill up.

Shouldn't an "OPEN" be exactly that from day one? - You may as well rename it to the Croydon Singles

Thanks in advance

Fair point. The first two Croydon Open's were truly open and were played at JFK's. It did work but it was a very long day for everyone involved. When we moved the event to Croydon for the 3rd event we went down to 8 tables and we knew we would have to restrict the comp to 64 to keep it as a one day event. Because of that we gave Croydon players first option and that has kind of stuck. Is it the right thing to do with an Open? Maybe not, but it's done now and whoever is involved in running it next year can reconsider. Now we have more tables at Croydon there is an argument for making it unlimited again but you have to bear in mind that the staff at Rileys are employees rather than owners like a JFK's and have no wish to work unpaid into the early hours of Sunday morning and we should not expect them to.

I would be extremely surprised if this was full of paid up CDPL players by 10 Jan. If it is I guess we can rename it the CroydonPool.com Singles. Those from outside the league can register their interest in taking part and we'll start a reserves list although entry will be on the same first to pay basis.

Hope that goes some way to answering your questions and I hope that you get to take part if you want to.

Cheers for feedback Sass.

As an FYI - the surrey open back in June was 96 runners - best of 9s

We started at 11am and were finished by 10.45pm and that included a plate.

Obviously that was because of the 16 tables. Thought I would give you the heads up on the time frame ours took for future reference

If you want to enter post on this thread and we'll add you to the provisional list. Once you hand your entry money to one of the people named in the initial post on this thread your place will be confirmed.

For the avoidance of doubt, payment guarantees your place so therefore your money will not be refunded if you withdraw from the competition.

From the original post:

How Much? ?10 before 25 January ?12.50 after

Who can enter? Croydon League Players up to 10 January, all players thereafter

Does that really need clarifying?

Full! :)

If you have missed out you can take pot luck on the day for ?12.50 on a first come first served basis. Experience has shown that people do drop out and there will be various other competitions running on the day.

The draw will be done at the Manor Club on Saturday evening at the league presentation.

We are still taking entries for the Ladies Competition up to 16 entrants.

That sucks, there is still 10 days before the final payment date yet people who signed up months ago have had their name removed from the list and new names replacing them.

If the only way to guarantee a place was to pay for it why doesn't say so at the top of the thread? Or a warning to say that your place will be given to someone if they get a chance to pay before you.

Does this also mean that there isn't a need to sign up on the site anymore? Your better off just giving ?10 to the organisers when you see them as the list on here doesn't appear to mean a thing until you see paid next to your name.

Oh well, at least I get a Sunday morning in bed now.

On the list of 64 runners Keely clarke is put on there twice at 39 and 42. so is there actualy still one place left.

It is not 10 days before the final payment date. The 25th is the date the price increases to ?12.50 which was to encourage people to pay early had the competition not been filled. The comp became open to everyone on 10th January and that was well advertised. Croydon players had weeks to make their payment for the competition before it was opened up to everyone.

I am sorry you have missed out but everyone has had the same opportunity to be in this competition so I can't really understand your argument.

well it kinda does, "first 64 PAID players", not "first 64 people to put their names down"

Oh, go on then, I'd look like a tool if I said no now ;)

I'll pay on Saturday (presentation) or Sunday (Surrey Classic) depending on who I see.

Site Team wrote:

My point having your name on the list didn't actually mean a thing after the 10th, I assumed (granted, incorrectly) that this meant you had a space until the payment deadline. After that date your place would be offered to a reserve, as is the case with the other comps that happen throughout the year.

Oh well, all's well that ends well and it looks like you may have another runner in the ladies now as Dianne has also lost her place in the main event, I'll check with her first though.

Who is Site Team now anyway? Please tell me that isn't Saxtonator calling me 'my lovely' :omfg:

We've never done it that way but that's how Surrey do their comps so I can understand why you thought that.

Spence - you aren't the first to query the entrance terms of the comp and probably won't be the last.

Site Team - it's not as clear as you think and is open to interpretation, so next time - spell it out.

i would have thought "first 64 paid players" means first 64 people to pay their money are in the comp.
