I understand there is a forthcoming rematch between the above teams which is being held at the Farley (Theatre of Dreams) next week some time.

I cannot find any details being posted on the event?

I know it was a huge success last time it was held and well worth dropping down to the Farley for a few drinks to watch the old boys get another thumping.....

The original thread was http://www.croydo...read_id=75.

It was a great weekend last time around, and I think the Old boys have nearly enough turning up for three teams on the different days.

I got my letter from Mark through the post yesterday. Have heard that the Croydon team are so worried about the ageing, dont know the rules, has been old boys, that they are recruiting Andy Esgrove (Tolworth) and Danny Evans (Rochester/Kent) to play.

I popped in the Farley when the last event took place.I remember thinking that it was hilarious. The current Croydon representative team were about 10-2 behind in a race to 15 ! But then the alcohol took effect on the "old boys".The current team were huddled around a pint of orange squash with umpteen straws ! Amazingly the current "stars" came back from the dead. It was an incredible turn around. Perhaps if the demon drink was restricted to post match celebrations, the result would be different !! A few egos might be left in tatters !!

My point is Daniel, there appears to be a charity event occuring which is directly connected with the Croydon Pool League, and no doubt like me is of interest to the members of the League? There appears at present to be no mention on the site of the forthcoming event hence my post. Whether I turn up or not bears no relevance to those involved but I am interested in the event none the less and will donate some dosh to the Charities concerned.....

There was a thread started a couple of weeks back as Shaggy has mentioned (And provided a link for)

Dates are as follows:
Friday 16th Nov (from 8pm)
Saturday 17th Nov (from 8pm)
Sunday 18th Nov (from 2pm)

It should be a cracking weekend.
A few of us won't be able to make the Sunday due to Surrey commitments, but this will be a minimal amount.

Can't comment on the last one because I was on holiday at the time of the match, but a massive success by all acounts.
I can assure you however, that I won't be huddled around an orange squash with a straw.

I don't share my squash with anyone. . . .

Mr Mills, I cannot recall you representing the CDPL between 1988-92 but if this is the case you are more than welcome to turn up at any of the sessions. I will need confirmation first before I contact Bob or Joe as I won't be present at the weekend due to work committments.

Tables have been re covered today for this event. ( Well its now yesterday )
Many thanks to Gary Swettenham and Adam Hewson for spending tonight at The Farley making sure the cushions dont ping, the balls run down the rails, and there is no roll offs. Just leaves me to check the light bulbs are ok.

Old Boys turned up mob handed tonight,15 players but, after last nights bashing Croydon Youth pulled out their biggest hitters... Millsey getting a day pass from his nursing home...
Swettenhams tactics paid off... Croydon Youth running out 20- 10 winner on the night to level the match...

where were the rest of the present croydon team then,or couldnt you find 15

Quality couple of nights. Old and largely retired players turn up with 15 players, some travelling from 100's of miles away.

Current Coydon team couldn't get enough players to avoid having to use former players like myself, Esgrove, my Mrs, and Andy Kastrinakis.

Tells you something about the current level of commitment to the Croydon representative team.

Anyways was great to see old faces like Steve Smith in town, and the overall vibe was superb.

P.S. I got dropped for my Mrs, total Burnett contribution 1 win (Marcia) from 9 played.

I'm officially rubbish.

P.P.S. Chris Brooker has a big c*ck. He rolled up his trouser leg and showed it to me.

Highlight of last night - Gary Fearne says to Swetts "I was 15 when I played for croydon. Where were you? You're sh!t...", then plays his shot and stuns the white straight into the nearest pocket

Final score in the Charity Match finished 45-45...
A 3 frame play off went to the deciding frame, Gary Sweetenham Youth team Captain (app age 59 ) battled it out with Mickey Samuel Old Boys Legend (app age 87 and three quarters ) Gary winning the Youth Team the choice of Charity.

Just to say a big thanks for all those that attended and the monies raised was a great effort by all. I received a letter from one of the old boys, Gordon Beard, who could not make it due to medical grounds (I'm sure as the years go on a few more will fall foul of that as well .. lol) who enclosed a personal donation of ?25 to the said charity which is now on its way to Bob to be sent off.
