Would be a shame if this doesn't happen . . .

Doesn't look like it will be at this rate . . It is a shame as it's the perfect opportunity to get some local talent into one of the UK's biggest amateur competitions . . Just a shame that things weren't more organised from the start and we had a bit more notice :(

I'd go in it but I'd have to bring my kids with me and I'm concerned they'll get bored and start running around etc.

There are about a squilion teams that play out of Suzys. Surely there's a few players who fancy their chances in this?

Posted by Golden on 20-11-2007 18:33

You'd have thought . . Worst case scenario there's some decent practice to be had over distance . . Best case scenario you could win ?3,500 from a ?15 entry . . If you win two matches in the main event you get yourself ?350 which is more than you'll get in most local competitions . .

it might not be all doom and gloom

we have 11 at mo

wot about if we only get 12

we could pay ?20 each = ?240 and then the winner could pay the extra ?10

so it costs the winner dble ie ?30

still well worth it tho

If they're struggling for numbers, surely it's better to give the winner of this qualifier a place regardless of how many you get running?

Bit like a ticket tout just before kick off... Something is better than nothing.

Posted by Golden on 20-11-2007 18:56
#17

It's already been billed at ?15 entry so it can't be changed now . . I agree with Spud, maybe if we get 13 for example then it's better to have a ?195 entry than no entry at all . .

Even more reason for people to enter this as the Croydon Qualifier will certainly not be in the hardest section of the 1st Round draw (IMO)

Please win the comp and get in group 1 then you will see how easy it is.

Posted by Lils on 21-11-2007 21:39

I bet it's a lot easier when you don't have to pay to enter it!

Can you seriously say that Groups 2 and 3 are easier than Group 1?!!! :elol:

Posted by Spudangles on 21-11-2007 21:42
#25

None of the groups are easy at all.

Posted by Golden on 21-11-2007 21:42
#26

Where did I say it was easy Sean? Please find where it said that and I will admit that I am wrong . .

. . what I did say however is that in my opinion it wasn't the hardest group. Again, in my opinion, the hardest group is group two. That's not group one or three, therefore making them easier (not easy . . there is a difference between easy and easier)

You do have a fragile ego this morning Sean . . Again if you want to PM me about it feel free as this is embarrassing . .

I know but surely you must be happy with the group you're in as opposed to being in the same group as defending champion Marc Farnsworth and ex-world champion yet amateur Carl Morris?

It's shocking to think that in a field of 64 people are already saying that Morris winning is just a formality . . I know he's good but surely he's beatable?

Posted by Spudangles on 21-11-2007 23:06

Id rather draw Morris or Farnsworth early to get them out. They are just another opponent to me. All the groups have tough players in it, if you draw the hardest in each group you are in for a tough match simple as. And the groups are only for the first round anyway it is drawn after each round thereafter.

Posted by Golden on 21-11-2007 23:10
#34

That's a fair point but there's always the fear of 'playing your final' too early . . I suppose if you're going to win it you have to beat the best at some stage but I'd rather get them in the final and know I've got a fair wedge guaranteed :D

There are plenty of players in there who are very beatable and the draw is going to be so so important . . With it being drawn each round it's in the lap of the gods . .

It's my year, they may as well give me the money now to be honest.
I might let shaggy get a set in the final though.

He'd be happy with that too . .

Posted by Shaggy on 22-11-2007 00:14

Yeah I think I could live with that. The fact is as you have both been turned over in qualifiers, neither of you should be there. Jackas.

With losers playing it just a sham of a mockery of a sham. If you get any money back you should just give it to charity. I just couldnt live with the embarassment.

I'll go in if I'm allowed, just checked and should get back in time for a 12PM start.

Not CDPL currently, but 20 years served, and 400 plus people with my Croydonpool.com stickers on their cue cases, tells me I'm an honorary lifetime Croydonian and therefore am surely allowed to play :D
