Can I get this straight - this isn't the CroydonPool.com Open comp that Danny and I used to run but it is using the same weekend?

Yes it is apart from it's not an open! There is going to be an open later in the year tho! Why??

Just a bit confusing that's all. I was wondering why change this one to a closed event when there was a well established competition in place?

Surprised it isn't full yet. Come on people get involved!!

there was a few reasons we did this, mainly because paul has just started a new job and hasnt got alot of spare time and this is only the 2nd one ive ever done so we didnt want to go too big when we wasnt really prepared, i know paul has provisionally booked a date later in the year for the open so it will be back, just later on in the year!!!

Good reasons. I guess I'm just a little sad to see it go.

I still remember the look on Danny's face when we took the money for 100th entrant in the first comp we ever ran . . . i130.photobucket.com/albums/p242/carlapryor/shocked-2.jpg

Its not gone, its just moved to September means that there will be 2 Croydonpool.com competitions this year, not just the 1

There is always potential for swapping the dates around next year, i.e. Croydon open in Feb and Croydon Singles in September

It's gone Paul. All the hard work that Danny and I put into building up that competition and its reputation over 5 years is completely wasted. Danny is livid and frankly so am I.

It's just so amateur and could so easily have been avoided.

Just a quick reminder the comp is this Saturday!! The club will be open from 10, and the draw will be done at half 10, so if ur money is not in by then u won't b in the draw!! Matches will be starting at 11 so everyone needs to be there by then!!

Hopefully see you all Saturday

How many entrants?

When are you going to reply to my earlier post?

58 paid entries, sass your post doesn't have a question in it so why does he have to answer it??? Your just s#*t stiring cos you've got nothing better to do! Like you said your comp is "gone" or "ruined" so start your own thread up about it and and see how many ppl really aren't bothered!

Anyway back on topic, in my opinion was a really good day yesterday, I thought the main comp ran very smoothly and I know Paul had 29/30 entries in the plate which was pleasing to see, well done to shaggy who probably had the toughest draw of the day and still came out on top! any feed back good points, bad points, things that can be improved on pls let us know

a well run comp all went very smooth so well done to the organisers! well done to shaggy for claiming the spoils on the day!

the only negative side from what i heard and saw was the condition of some of the tables! to many rolls and were obviously not level which is a shame as i have always found the tables to be of a very good standard over the years!

Thank you Kyle but I'm not *******stirring because I have nothing better to do. I'm expressing my disappointment at the fact you and Paul have transformed a hugely successful Open event into the worst attended February Croydon event in its history and you seem to consider it an achievement!!

Sorry if you don't like facts but perhaps its time you faced them.

If i'm not mistaken (I'm not) Paul said that there was going to be the Croydon Open held later in the year. Surely 2 comps is better than one?? :?:

I have never disputed that 2 comps are not better than one but when you have spent 5 years building up an Open competition and its reputation not just in Croydon but across London and the South East you don't go changing it to a closed event and starting a new Open competition on a different date 'to be decided' and lose all the goodwill built up by that hard work.

I've had at least 10 people ask me what has happened to the Croydon Open this year and I've had to be diplomatic and say I don't know.

Now I've had an 'organiser' call me a *******stirrer for having an opinion. It just gets better and better.

The Croydon Open will be later in the year, personly I felt that it was a great idea to have a closed comp for Croydon Players only. In the Croydon Open you only ever see 1st division with the occasional lower division players, due to the prospect of the South Easts best players being there. So it's only fair to give all the Croydon Players a comp and the much larger Croydon Open will be advertised when all the details are known, which will undoubtably bring in much more players as it has previously done. I don't see how changing date ruins and destroys it.

Why are you arguing a point that I'm not even disputing Tom?? Did you misunderstand my post?

If you hold a competition year on year on the same date then people know who won it last time, people want to improve on their performance the previous year etc etc. It actually begins to promote itself. That's what I mean by goodwill. The larger pool community recognises it and accepts the competitions place in the pool calendar and other pool promoters don't use that weekend for their events.

This new competition won't have that history. It won't have an established weekend to be held on and given that London couldn't find a free weekend for another competition I wish you guys luck in finding one for an Open.

The point is that you had a weekend set from previous years Croydon Opens which was the second weekend in February (Europeans weekend). It's much easier to find a free weekend for a Closed Event than it is for an Open.

An enjoyable day and a well run comp.

All we really well considering there was a lot of plate entries as well.

Well done to all who run the comp, nice to have just croydon players so everyone had a chance of winning!

Who won the plate comp?

Agree with the sharks comments, the tables have gone down hill since hannah has left!

For what it's worth - I'm pleased people enjoyed the day - I'm not trying to pick apart what Kyle and Paul did do. I'm sure they put a lot of effort into running the top table. It's hard work particularly if you are doing it with someone who goes a long way in the competition and isn't around to help so much.

It's what they didn't do I have issue with.

i to found the day a very enjoyble one ,cinging so many faces u know and play against during the season,i thuoght the day was very very well run all tables being used all the time and hardly any waiting time between games, its a great idea to allow just croydon players it really does give the lower leauge players a shot to play the higher leauge boys ,instead of the really big boys showing up and getting a easy pay day,i think the numbers will go up next year without doudt, really well run and a friendly day which a open does not always have
