You know me, I never delete emails, so I looked this up.

You're right that the 2008 comp was best of 9's but last year's was exactly as this one is advertised. I'm just guessing, as I can't remember the 2008 comp (maybe too many beers) but with a good turnout and best of 9's all the way, that would make a very long day/night, so it was probably whittled down to ensure the comp was finished before closing time.

As Paul said, if the turnout isn't great on the day and the players agree, then extend the matches but it seems crazy to promise people long matches and then have to chop it down if too many people turn up to get it done in time. I've learnt that from the Croydon Singles League - Promise what you can deliver and improve if you can. Don't make promises you can't keep.

Oh, and Paul, Count me in for Div.2, by the way !
