As most of you are aware.iwill try and hold a croydon open pool comp down at frames in the new year.unfortunatly the last 2 comp which i helped organise were big letdowns due to people not turning up for one reason or another.
Anyway my question is
With this comp being an open is there anyone that plays in our league good enough to win it.i would like to think that at least 5 players would fancy themselves against the likes of petty
Hope.kennedy etc
Would be nice to have acroydon winner so lets try and support this comp as im sure it would be a classic.
Players i think could win this event are as follows

Mev
Rod
Hughie
Metin
Danny k
Micky samuels
Shaggy
Andy shaw
And a few more if they were interested.
Any views ?

The status of Croydon players in Open/Regional Comps has dwindled because a) a number of good players no longer play and b) any players that would have been capable of winning, do not play anywhere near enough competetive pool.

I am on this list, and can safely say that I would have no chance whatsoever winning an Open event. Doing it in the past and doing it now are two very different things.

I would say that it would be very difficult for any Croydon player to win a 64+ field Open event at the present time. I know Mev has won back to back Surrey Opens, but he would still not be near to being favourite when you price up a beetting book.

The likes of Petty/Hope etc are playing high level competitive pool almost every weekend. Its a huge huge advantage, and certainly not something that many people on this list would have any desire to replicate.

agree with everything shaggy says, most of the top players in croydon are ring rusty. mev does amazing to win the events he has done without regular competition so it makes you wonder what he (and others) could do if they competed every weekend at a high level

Put on a ladies event and I'll give you a hand running the main one Knocky.

Last time I ran a Croydon Open we had over 64 runners and Shaggy won it

In that case there were over 100, and it was 2005, when I could play.

As for the ladies, the recent Surrey comps have had very little interest.
