If players/horses etc get backed their odds will be shortened. Non backed players such as yourself may drift in the odds or may stay the same. Have you added Dave as a moderator to this thread yet Dan? Then we can both alter the odds when needed, cheers.

Oh right so is it to encourage/discourage betting dependant on what's gone on so far? I guess ideally you want people to bet on the entire field as opposed to lumping on particular individuals and therefore causing a massive profit/loss scenario?

Many Thanks Danny. Saves me having to suspend betting on anyone while i wait for Sean to change the book.

The idea of shortening and incresing the odds is to narrow your liablilty and balance the book, you don't have to cut the price if other people are being backed as well. if you can do the odds correct, your book should balance itselfs out so that you are betting to around 105% (under 100% means the bookmaker will lose, over is the profit that should be made, most bookmakers on a racetrack bet between 101 - 115 on average).

With regards to the odds on the gambled people being backed you have to remember that what ever the worst result for the bookmaker is, he still has another 31 runners to beat that result.

With the bets on the outsiders, i would have thought the favs should be going out, the book still has the first 4 in the betting in it's favour.

Not that i know anything, have ever worked or have any interest in betting:roll:

*** Breaking News *** ( No pun intended )

From a break shot Steve Fields shattered the top half of his cue tonight.
Will it be back from the John Parris hospital in time for the Farley open. All i can say is Steve stormed out of the pub after, instructing Charles Burrows to get his cue to John Parris by 9 am. in the morning.
Feel sorry as he was looking forward to this comp. in a big way. Hope he does not have to. :surrender:

Sent Fieldsy a spare cue in the post today, which he will be using until his one is fixed, will be with him tomorrow, and no doubt he will then be practising furiously with it to see if it works for him.

Only a cheap old B&W bought in Yarmouth , but it is short (56 inch), quite heavy, and has an 8.5mm tip - so not too disimilar to Fieldsys own cue.

Slash his odds. 2's I reckon. ;)

I'd start a new thread for that if I were you Dave. Keep them separate so there can be no confusion as to which odds people should expect when they place their bets.
