Article and calendar entry submitted . . .

On Sunday 15th June I will be running a qualifier at Riley?s Purley Way for the Riverside Amateur Players Championship which takes place on 25-27 July at Riverside Pool Club, Ware, Hertfordshire.

The winner of the main event will pick up ?1600 from a ?6400 prize fund (subject to entries). Direct entry for the Main Event is ?100; however, you can take part for just ?12.50 by qualifying locally. The qualifier requires a minimum of 8 players to go ahead and there will be one Croydon representative in the main event for every 8 players who take part.

In a similar format to the main event, the qualifier will be best of 3 sets with each set being best of 7 frames, but if the match goes to the final set, then it must be won by 2 clear frames.

Registration is from 11.30am with the competition starting at midday. You can pay in advance at the club if you wish.

This qualifier is open to all amateurs except for former professionals who are welcome to enter the main event but must do so by buying in direct for ?100. This is the same for all the qualifiers being held across the country.

You're a useless bum who shouldn't be allowed near a pool table. Is that enough of a put-down?

Gary Moylan isn't it?

Damn. I was looking forward to hearing if you decided to play sets or not. Or whether you were going to go for a meal after, or maybe catch a show and walk home arm in arm under the sparkling blanket of a summer's starry night.

Great I've got my thread back. Anyone else interested in this qualifier?

Anyone else. It would be good to get this up to 16 so that Croydon can have 2 representatives like last year.

I would enter but Tom Kennedy's in it so there isn't much point :bite:

haven't heard any update for a while is everything still on track for this? :bounce:

I hope so. Obviously it needs a minimum of 8 to go ahead but I will mention it at the Surrey Open at the weekend and see if we can pick up a few more entrants. I'm reasonably confident.

Danny - any news on whether the 1-32 ranking comp will be rescheduled for the 15th?

how many places are they left

I'm not limiting it. There will be qualifier for every 8 entrants. I'm just trying to get some idea of how many will be coming as if there are less than 8 it is unlikely to go ahead.

I see that there are 7 names. What if we each paid ?14.50 to get the ?100 that is needed.

think Danny said he might go in this but if there are less than 8 then that is certainly an option

aww so as things stand is this still happening? Or is it being rescheduled for another weekend? Either way I'll be there, just trying to plan ahead a little.

Cheers!

I'm going to be at JFK's later so hope to pick up a few runners from there. Failing that I'm going to have to cancel this as there isn't another available date.

At the moment on. Tony Bailey wants to play apparently.

Ok sorry but I've come to a decision that this won't be going ahead on Sunday.

If enough people are interested in doing it on another day - maybe the 29th before Interleague - I'll happily run the qualifier then.

Sorry for the short notice - I was really hoping that there would be the same level of interest as last year.

out of the 8 players how many qualify? 1 i take it? and also if u qualify how much is it 2 enter the main event?

Posted by Sass on 14-06-2008 17:39
#39

One qualifer for every 8 players - it's ?100 to enter the main event but if you qualify the idea is that your entry money is paid for you :)

Did you definitely want to go in this Luke? Someone on the Surrey site wants to play so this may happen after all?

Forget it. It won't be happening tomorrow.

Is this going to be done on another day???

Posted by Sass on 23-06-2008 17:14

I very much doubt it as the interest simply isn't there from within Croydon league.

I think the interest is there, I played last year and enjoyed the format but it's a bloody long day of pool whilst the weathers quite nice. I think it was the same problem with ranking comps, if they were moved to a different time of year then you probably get a better attendence.

That's true. Unfortunately since this is a qualifier for another event which is being held in July there isn't much choice about when it is played!
