Why is the list entitled 'confirmed entries' then?

Because those people have confirmed that they are entering . .

Not really; they've simply confirmed that they'd like to enter. If they're definately going to enter, then you should stop the names going down now and declare the comp full. But chances are with most comps, people say they want to enter and then either don't turn up or something else crops up and they can't make it. Hence the need for payment in advance.

But anyway, I understand now. Thanks for explaining. :)
