The random mixed scotch doubles we did at the Div 5 k/o was really good fun. Maybe do something along those lines at this comp too?

Also what are the rules regarding talking between shots etc?

Posted by Golden on 04-08-2008 00:22
#34

I'm not sure if there are any 'official' rules . . Anyone know?

I would suggest that the rules as they are now should apply in that it's ok to talk before a visit but not during it . . I know they allow it in the Scotch Doubles format for 9-ball but IMO it defeats the whole object of it and takes the fun out of it . .

Any thoughts?

Is it alternating breaks same player cant break twice in a row for the same team?

Posted by TomK on 04-08-2008 05:20
#36

I would say that once a ball is potted, you CAN NOT speak to your partner until the opposition are due to be at the table. You can speak to your partner in between visits though.

Also surely it must be alternate breaks. e.g Player A from team 1 breaks first, Player A from team 2 breaks second, Player B from team 1 breaks third and Player B from team 2 breaks fourth and so on.

Hope this all makes sense.

Spudangles wrote:

Again, we're not aware of any specific rule regarding this so if anyone has any suggestions/experience of this then it's welcomed :)

For what it's worth I don't think the break is as important to Scotch Doubles as is conferring so I don't see a problem with regards to who breaks but as said if there is a rule/trend in place for this then we'll gladly accommodate it.

Totally agree with you regarding conferring during visits . . IMO it goes against what Scotch Doubles is all about . .

Sean . . Were any rules in place relating to the break in the event that you held that time? I know it was a slightly different format but can't remember how the Scotch Doubles part worked . .

Exactly Harry. And even if someone really DIDN'T have anyone to ask but liked the idea of it, then why shouldn't they have the chance to enter if there are any other stray persons who's mates weren't able to make it? And an extra £15 in the kitty is better than not.

It's in place to maximise the potential entries/prize fund . . I'd be very surprised if someone did actually pay their ?7.50 as an individual but there's no harm in putting the option there . .

Quick question, if you pot on the break, can u talk to your partner before the next shot is played? Obviously now talking after the shot until the end of visit. But can you confer after the break off?

Posted by Golden on 08-08-2008 22:18
#82

Nope . . The breaker nominates if he/she pots and that's it . . As the visit has commenced there's no conferring ;)

Posted by gfizz on 08-08-2008 22:20
#83

No you cant talk to your partner after the break shot and your partner has to nominate the colours that you are going to be.

Well thats is what myself and Donna were told when we smashed up Golden and Cocaine Katie.

you have to be able to confer, that's the way they do it on the tv...
people will confer one way or another wether it's by code, pointing or shouting 'go on son = to pot' or 'all night long = for a safety' so it's impossible to police hence you might as well allow it. it's half the fun anyway!!!

Posted by Sass on 09-08-2008 04:19

No conferring. You can't confer in normal doubles - why should this be different.

Sass wrote:

wot....

beacause this isn't normal doubles and is different!!!

both players are at the table at the same time so whether you like it or not somehow they will confer.

conferring is part of the whole scotch doubles concept!!!

Posted by Golden on 09-08-2008 16:52
#91

That's how they do it 'on the TV' with US 9-Ball . .

. . the last time I checked, today's tournament isn't US 9-Ball.

'On the TV', who nominates after the break? Oh of course it's an entirely different game so that rule doesn't apply does it . .

Posted by andye on 09-08-2008 17:08
#92

like i say, both players are at the table at the same time.
one way or another they will confer so it's impossible to stop.
i'm dissapointed i can't make the event as i know i'd be conferring somehow with my partner and there'd be nothing you could do about it!!!
if you try to stop it you will end up with a lot of arguments...
what is the penalty for being caught conferring?
