First time many people will have played scotch doubles - as well as posting the scores it would be nice to hear what people thought of the format.

I love it!! :D

I witnessed the end of it. Paul Saxton's game. I think Paul's team played 338 df's in a row.

I much prefer this format, but I think you need to be on the same wavelength as your partner.

Which Billy and I witnessed last night first hand, especially in the final frame where you both cleared up very nicely from our dry break. Good luck in the next round!

Loved the format, it makes it much more interesting and makes you concentrate on every shot. I agree about being on the same wavelength though, it's important.

Edi and I kept apologising for the shots we were leaving eachother!!! I don't think you are really supposed to say anything to your partner while your 'team' is at the table but it's so hard not to apologise for a bad shot.

Still all over in 20 minutes and kids in bed at a reasonable time. Thanks again to our opponents for agreeing to play earlier in the evening and good luck in the Plate :)

you are supposed to confer... it's the whole point of scotch doubles...!!!

No the whole point is you don't confer during visits. That was made clear at the AGM.

i don't give a monkey's what was made clear at the agm... all i'm saying is the whole point of scotch doubles is to confer and be more of a team game... anyone who can't realize that is just plain thick...
i'm not doing the doubles but if i were then i'd be conferring one way or the other whether it'd be talking, in code or pointing to where i wanted the balls to be...

haha great post Andy, I love the mentality.

But when you are good enough, you have planned your entire clearance at the beginning so no more conferring is needed anyway :smug:

Imagine how long Jay's game would have lasted if they could have conferred on every shot?? :wall:

Then you would be cheating. Just as well you're not in the doubles then! :D
