I would like to offer another thought...for those of you that know me, you will know that I have been in the league for nearly 20 years...never have been and probably never will be a first division player, but I believe in this league...I go out every Tuesday to do my best and enjoy a night out, win or lose. It is nearly 6 years since I last missed a league game.
When you have picked yourselves up off the floor, finished throwing comments at the computer screen, and changed your trousers, think about this....I have only won a few league trophies in my time, but the ones I do have stand proudly on display in my living room. THIS HAS INSPIRED MY SON TO TAKE UP POOL. Whilst he is only a junior, and doesn't have the talent of someone like Billy Barnett, he has plenty of time to improve. The only way this league will continue over many years is by bringing in new blood. Where better than to get youngsters (and their mates) involved. I would be interested to find out what inspired the likes of Tom Telford and Aaron Taylor to start playing pool. As has previously been said, it is not the size of the trophy that is important, but more what it represents. It provides a legacy to those that follow us.
Yes I would like to see bigger trophies, but the logistics of the league as it stands make this impossible. By the same token, those that win trophies year in, year out don't always keep them, so why should the league spend money on something that some people don't appreciate?
I personally treasure those trophies I have won, and regardless of the size they provide a lasting memento to those acheivements. They can be the inspiration for a whole new generation of pool players...think about it.
