The main challenge in a singles league format is concentration....

Most of the Div 1 boys have played hours on end in practice, but very few have played two hours where every shot may matter. I would imagine that after the end of this, players results in open events best of 9's etc will improve.

A player like Kyle has put so much effort to play one frame pool over the last couple of years, he has admitted that it is a different skill to win matches over this distance and its all a learing curve for someone of his ability.

Everyone winning or losing should get something out of it, and ultimately thats why singles leagues can be really good.

I hate to agree with you, but I do Smile

Not too sure about the "learing curve" though, can't you get arrested for that!

Agreed Shaggy, it's certainly a learning curve in terms of the concentration required, another enjoyable night but I'm losing too many games at the tail end of my matches.

Maybe I should have a few less pints and a little more OJ.

Last nights results were (I think)

Division 1

Paul Wholley ??? Dan Mason ????

Our match was the last to finish i think and i beat Paul 8-4. Enjoyed the game but i know Paul can play much better than he did. Took frames off him where he missed silly balls that he would normally put away. Was pleased with the way i played though to to take 6 frames in a row from 4-2 down.

Charles Burrows is a lot better than his results suggest . . The boy can pot some ridiculously sick pots and then go and miss something silly . .

. . that said he is one of the most animated and at the same time odd players I've ever met . . He's proper funny when he gets going and if he were to get his head around the rules and play a bit more solid he has the makings of a cracking player . . I can see why he does well playing snooker . .

Nice to see the Division One contingent just getting on with it without any fuss . . Could teach us Premier Division players a thing or two . . They turn up, get going, enjoy the night and get their money and results in . . Can't fault that at all and bodes well for the expansion for CSL III

From what I saw last night it was a shame I missed out on it this time. A good chance to improve my game over a longer period rather than the odd frame on a Tuesday night. I'll definately be up for CSL 111 if it goes ahead.

I am sure it will Luke. Jake Hanes turned up last night. He hasn't practiced for about 10 years, and he wants to go in it next time too.

whilst team pool is good fun, singles matchplay is good to be involved in...
it's a good test of all departments of your game and over a season you'll get asked lots of questions of yourself that you don't get in a single frame...
unfortunately for me work means i can't commit regulary to thursday nights!

Another good night of pool, although not the result I was hoping for wall still an enjoyable evening.

Learning curve is right, I dont think I played too badly but Paul was getting the run of the balls and the further behind I got the harder it was to win one. I still feel it could have gone either way and the scoreline doesn't tell half the story.

Well played to Mr de Silva - I'll be waiting for the rematch threaten

It shows just how different one frame pool is to distance pool . . Two different games within a game to an extent . .

Kyle losing heavily twice on the bounce shows this to an extent . . Don't get me wrong as he's still a quality match player but as Shagy has mentioned, he has focused entirely on his one-frame pool with the Eagles and even when he's been practicing it's only been for a handful of frames . . He'll be the first to admit he hasn't prepared properly for this and if anything this is to get him back into the swing of things ready for CSL III and subsequent tournaments . .

Shaggy made an interesting point in that it will be interesting to see how the Division One players who feature in the 'Opens' will get on now that they're involved in regular match practice over distance . .

It just goes to show that pool has such a mental aspect to game and it's not just about potting balls . .

The difference between one frame and matchplay is massive. Matchplay is significantly more agressive (unless you are the Saxton).

In the past Div One players probably went into a best of 7 comp thinking, blimey this comp could take all day. Give it a while and I promise you'll be thinking, 'first to five, thats a short distance, I best start well or i'll be out in 20 minutes'.
