If you could change one thing about the league, what would it be?

It could be anything from changing the league name, to the start time of matches, making food compulsary on Monday's, the rules we play or absolutely anything for that matter!

List just one suggestion and a brief explanation as to why Smile

Well I know I'm running the risk of starting a huge row, and I am probably pissing into the wind, but because I play for a team with 11 or so reliable members who are all of a decent enough standard, I personally would like to revert back to the old format of 7 frames.

This is partially because we keep playing teams with only about 5 players who get a nice warmup in the first set and then play our last 5 (who go on cold) and have an advantage (also because I'm not keen on the play all night and go home with a draw scenario).

Since we are a team with more than 10 strong players, we should really have an advantage, but we end up worse off.

Before anyone comes back at me with the ridiculous argument that we could just play our 5 strongest twice, you are right to a point, but we are not really the cold blooded win-by-any-means types, we are out to have an enjoyable night of pool and we should really include every team member - otherwise we are not being fair to the other 5 or 6 who show up every week.

I'm sure we are a minority, but you must understand my point.

Was there ever anything wrong with the old format?

Discuss...

2 things, first I would change the singles league to any other night as I babysit on a Thursday. 2nd I would reduce the area that teams are allowed to join the league from.No disrespect but Lewisham is a nightmare to get to.

I dont personally see the difference in someone having a frame, then playing a second. I wouldn't call it a warm up as such. I can understand your veiw, but does it always mean that if you've played 1 frame before, you will win in the second frame or even have an advantage...No
The way I see it, each individual should go into every game of pool and be confident enough to expect to win it. Obviously this isnt always going to be the case, but if your focused enough on your game it shouldn't matter if one player has played a frame earlier.

Not a new thing but it was mentioned about food being compulsory. Is that the case?

As for reverting to the old format - if that happened I probably wouldn't continue.

You ever pick the numpty from a team who played a shocker and then he/she gets on the table and clears up?

You can't deny it is a warm up...

Not only do they get their eye in and get a feel for the table, but since the second game doesn't count toward their personal stats, they have nothing to lose!

emdee - 10 of your players can get a game as opposed to only 7 before... i like the summer format as it suits different size squads more...
pondife - i can't understand you not wanting to be able to play twice... being embarresed once must be bad enough for you...

i'd like the winter league to be a similar format but with 2x6 frames

i've played in leagues before where the loser has to buy the winner a drink... i like that idea a lot

singles best of 3 is a joke and hence why i have only entered 3 or 4 times over the last 16 years!

doubles is pony anyway but should be scotch doubles if it's gonna happen

the league should pay the ?50 for champion of champions teams

oh yeah... and spotted cue balls should be banned!!!

I would like to see a best of 9, I think teams get more out of a win than a draw..even more so driving all the way to Lewisham maybe to draw or lose. No offence lads. Maybe a set of 5 & 4.

I think 15 is too many for an 8.15 start and I struggle to get there for 8.15. If the majority want it maybe start earlier.

I'd like to see the venues regulated. Some of the places you play at absolutely stink (especially since the smoking ban), tables are awful with no intention of putting them right and some tables are not the size they should be, gaining more advantage for the home team than a spotted white EVER could!

I'm not sure this would or could ever happen, but it's what i'd change. Smile

Oh, and people shouldn't be allowed to pump their fist when they win. That's proper gay. Even Andy Murray looked a cock doing it and he plays a decent sport.

Cheering flukes is shit and seems to be done on a regular basis in Division 5, as is cheering when the white is potted or black/other colour potted out of turn by an opposing player. That's desperate, sad and makes me want to stab someone.
