That's harsh. All the committee do is implement the rules agreed upon by the membership at meetings.

Have your say at the next meeting.

thats a fair comment sass but i wonder how many people when voting for the plate realised when we got to round three we'd have just 3 games and a silly amount of byes and are we gonna see byes in every round?

I have to admit I had to leave the AGM while this was still being debated. To be honest I didn't fully understand it at the point I left so I was hoping I'd pick it up as I went along. Sadly I haven't really!!

It all seemed fine up till the point you stopped Division One players from going in the plate. That seems to me to have been the cause of most of the problems with the byes. Given there's only a handful of players who have a realistic shot at the Singles, with the draw the size it is, it's extremely unlikely that 2 of them would meet before Round 2. Yes it's possible - but unlikely.

To win any event you're going to have to beat good players and with that in mind I'd have made the plate open to everyone who lost before Round 2 of the singles. Ok you would still have byes but they would all be in the first round of each competition.

I'll shut up now before someone shrinks my trophy Wink

So after 23 years of running this league ... you reckon I have'nt got a clue. I appreciate that everyone has a right to an opinion but on this occasion I take exception to your statement. I have now on numerous occasions explained the problems involved in the practicalities of running the ko comps and plates with the recent conditions attached and agreed in principle with peoples grievances relating to them but until something new is given a go then you are never going to know how it works out. I'm getting pissed off with sarky comments typed on here so I would suggest that if you have anything further to comment about then leave it to the appropriate time in February and you can air whatever grievances you feel to me personally and if you think that you can do the job of running the League better then I would welcome your application to become secretary of the League.

Porky you should learn to appreciate the fact that this league is run as a totally not for profit organisation. If the league was left to people like yourselves who doubtless just turn up on a Tuesday and bitch it would fold in minutes. All decisions are decided by a majority vote.

Mark you do a fantastic job and 99.999% of people appreciate what you do to keep the league running. Big up

Knowing Porky as I do; which Mr Halsey should do also - having played within the same team as him in the late eighties/early nineties, he is just being his cheeky provacative chappie self.

We all realise what a tough job it is to run a league such as this and over the years it has run smoothly and whilst it is good to try new ideas; especially if it stimulates extra interest from the lower leaques (where Porky and I now reside), i do feel on this occasion it has been cocked up. As long as lessons are learned, which i am sure they have - then all will be well.

Sometimes when new things are tried out it doesn't work. Personally, I can't see where the problem is in having a few byes. Without Mark the league wouldn't be anywhere near as strong or as well organised as it is.

I agree with berty. I think Mark does an excellent job. I've been on league committees and it is a completely thankless task.

I think its pretty clear cut now. The seeding of first division players hasn't worked. It should be an open draw, and any prelim (which should round the comp to 64,128, 256) and first round losers from below Divison One have a plate. Easy!

Its no significant disadvantage for the 1st Division players to play an extra game. If you want to win it, 6 or 7 rounds, it makes no difference. If two big names draw each other so be it, they would have only avoided each other for one round anyway.

No byes in the 2nd Round, the Lower Division get the plate they want, everyones happy. Now all we have to do is give the first Divison teams a rebate for having one less comp. Wink

No an opt-in competition not related to the main Singles KO . . 1st Division players only . . Best of 9's up to the quarters, Best of 11 Quarters, Best of 13 Semis and Best of 15 Final . .

I have to say i am amazed that i have played 2 games in the singles & 2 games in the doubles & now have a bye in the next round in both competitions, surely this is not the right way for things to be done.

But having said that, i totally understand that Mark is simply implementing what was voted in at the AGM & point no blame towards him or the comittee what so ever.

Maybe as Shaggy said, just have a prelim draw to set up 64,128,256 for the first round proper, with any losers in the prelim or first round proper going into a plate comp. Then have a prelim round in the plate to get to 64,128,256 for the first round proper of the plate competition.

Obviously this would mean no byes for first div players.
I would rather be playing golf

Mark i realise it's hard work trying to please all the people all the time.
but we are just trying to work out what is going on. Most of the players in theses cup/ plates are not aware of all the condition's imposed And are getting a little frustrated at what are normally well organized competitions.
