Empty thread about Croydon Player Achievements, thought I'd add something to it Wink

This Saturday, December 15th, at West Park, starting at 7PM, finsihes midnight, is the County Presentation and Xmas Party.

A number of goodies being handed out to Croydon players including...

Interleague KO Cup Winners 2006 - Croydon A Shockne:

Interleague League Runners-up 2006 - Croydon A :two:

County "Man of the Match" Awards for 2006 and 2007...
Andy Esgrove x 4
Kyle Pickett x 3
Marc Burnett x 3
Sean Kelly x 2
Tom Jackman x 2
Paul Wildman x 1
Adam Hewson x 1

County "4 out of 4" Awards for 2006 and 2007...
Kyle Pickett x 5
Marc Burnett x 5
Tom Jackman x 4
Andy Esgrove x 3
Sean Kelly x 1
Adam Hewson x 1
Micky Porter x 1

Obviously it would nice to see all of these players there to collect their awards, as well as the victorious Croydon Interleague team of 2006.

Free buffet, social club prices on drinks, and a disco running til midnight as well.

It would be particularly nice if the Croydon Interleague League turned up, as me and Kellyfish had to kick up a rumpus to make sure Croydon got their trophies, as there was no County presentation or trophies awarded last year, and we had to fight to make sure Croydon got them this year.

Better late than never winkgrin

Danielsan, how the hell did you manage to get England trials in 2006, but no MoM, or 4 from 4's?

Croydon Trophies above from list I got sent by Martin, and I was surprised to see your name not listed.

Consistency . .

In my two years with Surrey A I never got 4/4 and only got MotM once . . Didn't set the world alight but got the job done . . Only got 0/4 once and only got 1/4 a couple of times . . Two England Trials without getting 4/4 just shows that you don't have to set the world alight to get there . . Wiggy got loads of 4/4's and is now in the B's Wink

Ironically my only ever A-Team 4/4 was for Kent against Surrey A big grin

Rumour has it that perhaps 3 people will turn up to collect their trophies.

Nice.

I'd suggest a Halsey style "pack em and stack em" and keep the trophies of non-attendees for someone else next year that does turn up.

I too suspect a low turn out Marc.
There are a couple of the lads that have genuine reasons why they cannot attend, and of course, JR has emigrated to the land of Oz, but still. . . .

Main problems being that after the cup success, the time disbandened somewhat. The majority of the squad don't use the site, so I'm trying my best to round them up.

Nice one Mr Kelly.

Forgot about JR, if anyone has his address in Oz I'll gladly collect his 2 trophies and cover the cost of getting them shipped over there for him, will make his day when he opens the parcel up Smile

Understand that time has passed, but it's typical Croydon, and more to the point, probably the underlying reason why the Interleague 'A' team has gone to the dogs this year. No-one gives a sh!t.

The 'B' team could teach some of them a thing or two about commitment.

it's no secret that Croydon have never been an integral part of the 'happy family' that is Surrey, especially when their one moment of glory went disrespectfully unnoticed . .

How long do Croydon get to keep the KO Cup before it's presented to Tolworth? 5 Minutes? Maybe 10?

Croydon will always be the black sheep of the family . . It's just the way it is . .

Black sheep doesn't come in to it at all.

I've made as many friends through County in 3 years as I made through Croydon pool in 20, so that would suggest it is generally a decent bunch who make people feel welcome. Certainly you socialise with a far wider group being part of a squad of 60 players than you ever could as part of a team of 7 on a Tueday.

Equally, history shows that Surrey A team, and indeed most of the squad, has been made up largely of Tolworth and Warriors players. There is very little Croydon representation. 2 players last year, Kyle & Kellyfish, who are part of the Croydon Interleague set-up, played County. There is no more or less to it than that.

It certainly won't change whilst people from Croydon don't bother representing.

As for the 'disrespect', there wasn't any, there was simply no Presentation last year because some on the Commitee felt there was a lack of demand.

The likely poor turn-out from the Interleague KO Cup Winners and Runners-Up for 2006 might point to them being right.

If Croydon players feel they get their 'fix' on a Tueday, that's all well and good.

For those that are interested in playing pool on a wider scale, then they should consider going to Trials in January.

My own experience tells me they will be welcomed with open arms. As long as they are reliable and commited.

Ask Sean Kelly what pool event he is most looking forward to next season, pound to a penny it will be the Intercounty National Finals at Yarmouth.

The bigger issue on show here is how poorly Croydon represent themselves currently.

Themselves, not County, but themselves.

From one of Surreys biggest leagues, you can't get a decent A team out that are commited and reliable.

No wonder people go off to play elsewhere.

At the recent Old Boys vs Current Interleague match, Croydon Interleague A couldn't get a full team out.

The Old Boys had players travelling from near and far, queueing up to get a game.

End result, a patched up current representative team got booted on the Friday, by players that were far more interested in having a craic and a beer than in winning.

And that is purely a Croydon problem, that has nothing at all to do with County or anything.

The only credit due to Croydon this year, was earnt by the team that almost didn't exist because of lack of support from those responsible for running Croydon Interleague, your B team, who turned up as a commited team unit for every game of the Interleague season.

I feel sorry for those that are genuinely commited to the Croydon cause, that have stuck by the team. The likes of Kellyfish and Kyle for example. I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see them playing Interleague elsewhere next year.

Apologies if it appears I'm digging Croydon out generally, I'm honestly not, CDPL remains my first love.

That's why it annoys me so much to see you mugging yourselves off.

Fact is Interleague was driven by you Danny, and to a lesser extent the reliable players like myself, Kellyfish etc,. You and I left, and no-one really took up the slack with the same level of commitment that you had previously shown.

Sorry, but fact as I saw this season as an onlooker.

And that's exactly why I am returning for the 2008 season . . Because it's time to stick our arses on the bacon slicer and represent . .

Tell me how much involvement the SCPA have in promoting the county within Croydon? Apart from yourself, point out how exactly the SCPA have promoted County to Croydon in recent years? Had it not have been for Trevor Herbert telling me about County 5 years ago there wouldn't be any Croydon Interleague at all . . I didn't even know about County up until that point and I had played in Croydon for 7 years at that point . . The point that it took you 17 years to get involved proves my point . .

The fact remains that the SCPA have always seen Croydon as the unreliable lot from the other side of the County . .

You say that the SCPA felt there was a 'lack of demand' for a presentation . . Fair enough, there is no CDPL representation on the SCPA committee but that still doesn't justify there being a 'lack of demand' . . The fact that there were winners, regardless of who it was, is demand enough . .

Who on the SCPA committee is responsible for Croydon A's trophies being presented to them a year late? Presentations aside, the fact that even a worthless gesture such as giving Gary a box of trophies still in bubble wrap didn't happen is an absolute travesty . .

I know Martin does a good job at County and you have helped him bring the SCPA to the forefront but the damage was done long before you arrived . . I can only presume Martin has you on commission fishing for a bite

Wink

Got last AGM on Saturday, I'm standing down from SCPA, and found a replacemnt to take on the job I had last year.

Commitees not for me.

Me and Kellyfish kicked up about Croydon trophies, but we look like a pair of prize c*nts if no-one is then bothered to come and collect them.

Agree that County is poorly promoted over Croydon sides, in fact everywhere really, I myself found it by accident because Sass invited my Mrs to Ladies Trials.

You ARE unreliable. History proves it time and again.

Your own Interleague team proves it every month.

Your best players are Primadonnas who thrive on being 'famous' in Croydon, but haven't got the balls to stand up and be counted outside of their comfort zone.

Big fish, small ponds.

The way the team played as a whole against Warriors recently was a joke, going for dishes that were never there, showboating, not taking it at all seriously, no support for the players at the table, basically mugged themselves off.

Was sad to see. Particularly after the success of 2006, where we had a Croydon team I was proud to be part of, that battled for each other, and actually looked like they gave a sh!t.

I hope you fix it, if anyone can...

I think both sides are as guilty of not doing enough.

Interleague this year for the A team was certainly an anti climax after 2006's monumental efforts. This can be attributed to many things, but obviousley losing 5 or 6 players doesn't help.

It was always gonna be difficult. The team spirit was not as good, we lost pretty much all of our vocal players in you two boys and Cliff Mills, so straight away it was a lot quieter, a lot more subdue.
We then lost the ability of Tony Jackson, John Robinson, Wiggy aswell as you boys and all of a sudden it had the feel of a totally different side.

There is still a core of players who love this league and wear thier heart on thier sleeve, and want Croydon back competing for things.

The B team done brilliant this year in the end, but they started off very rocky let's not forget, think the captaincy changed 3 times in the first month. . .
Credit to the guys that stuck with it and saw it through, as they proved a credit to this league.

With reagards to promotion, a lot more can be done on both sides.
I think the Interleague teams need much more coverage. I don't mind doing all the updates every month with Danny & Sass's help, can hopefully get a dedicated section on this very website.

With Mark's permission, get said updates sent out with weekly results, and hopefully, get some kind of recognition at the annual presentation once again.

If we can get the Interleague firmly back on the agenda, I think the county stuff will naturally follow.

More than happy to set up an Interleague topic for any news you care to submit.

I'm as guilty as the next person of not getting behind Croydon within Surrey. Like a few others in Croydon I choose to play my county and interleague in London so I'm not that on the ball about what's going on within Surrey. In fact I think you will find that there is far greater London representation within Croydon league than there is for Surrey.

Mark Halsey is 100% behind the interleague setup and within reason will do whatever we need to bring Interleague back to topic . . He is arranging with Gary to reintroduce the medals for playing certain amounts of frames and will continue to do Player of the Year awards etc . . It only takes him a couple of minutes to put things in the mailshots but can only do that if we keep him up to date with current goings on . .

Myself and Sean will report back to the website and post some news on the Interleague forum that Sass is going to set up and we'll get it back to how it used to be when we showed Surrey how it's done over in Croydon Wink
