I think people seem to be missing the point somewhat . . This event was a competition in addition to an already successful Singles KO and therefore it was never going to attract the same numbers, especially considering it's on a weekend . .

As Shaggy said, it was still a good day of pool with a few games of poker thrown in for good measure . . Those who didn't attend were under no obligation so that's entirely up to them and those who did attend enjoyed their day . . As with all competitions, it's success is judged upon it's quality rather than the number of people that enter so be it 26 or 126 it makes no odds as to it's success . .

If the remaining four competitions also attract 26 people then that's 130 of the league's members making the effort which in't a bad shout IMO

I don't think I'm missing a point. If you feel that a turnout of 26 is a success then great but sorry I'm not about to agree with you.

Sorry everyone . . It would appear I have mislead you all. Sass has said it wasn't a success so therefore it wasn't . . My apologies . .

Don't take it personally whatever you do rolling eyes

As I have said above, everyone has different opinions as to what defines success . .

26 was about what I would have expected. I only knew about it through the website so I suspect a lot of people didn't even know it took place. It should grow in future years when it is on the calendar from the start of the season.

I would suspect that when Presentation time comes around, and an additional 10 (I presume) trophies are handing out there may be more interest in future years.

There wasn't more runners because people didnt know about it. Whether that be because the Secretaries didnt pass it on, who knows. In any event its the first weekend so difficult to judge.

The fact remains that if half of the players than win or are runners up, are not alreadfy being represented at the Presentation Evening with there team, and additonal numbers however they are gained is beneficial.

Div 1 is probably tougher to get entries in, because unfortunately with comps going on left right and centre, some people choose to play in these events rather than playing for free. I however would prioritise a Croydon Event other almost any other comp going on.

Think 26 is a pretty decent turn out considering its a single division comp. Expect around the same number for the other divisional comps. When you add up the total numbers over the 5 comps im sure it will show that this will be well supported and that individual participation will be on a par with or outnumber other competitions at Suzy's or The Farley. As has been said people have different priorites and many in the league will only play on a Monday or Tuesday and will give weekends a miss. Anyway, its normally the same faces give or take a few from across the divisions that take part in the regular weekend competitions when there are 32 or 64 runners or whatever, and they have all to my knowledge been a success. So 26 players getting involved for the Div 1 comp is pretty good IMO.

Ok I stand corrected. 26 runners out of around 150 potential entrants is a success.

Well done.

Sorry that's come over as harsh. I just think that it's been let down by the lack of support.

It should be seen as a stepping stone in my opinion not a success or failure.... 300 or how many people go in the singles.... I would be suprised if that was the case when it started.

If lower division secrataires see this I would encourage them to get as many of their players possible to it, because you get a lot of pool for absolutely no cost.

It would be nice to aim to get 64+ runners, and if this is this year with the lower divisions, next year or the year after so be it.

I agree . . It was let down massively and there were teams in Division One who didn't have a solitary representative there on Saturday . .

Even Wayne Pope bothered and that's saying something!!

I've just been informed by Mark Halsey that the Pre-Draw has been scrapped and the remaining events will be drawn on the day clapping

I totally agree with the opinions against the pre-draw,although I fully understand the misguided motives. I popped in to Suzy's on Saturday and it was a lot quieter than I had anticipated. Of course, the fact that there were no Farley Eden players present, contributed to the almost church-like atmosphere !! Next Saturday I think that the 2nd division players should be given until 12.30 to turn up. At that time the draw should be done, including only those present at that time. I would be happy to assist in organising the draw if required !!

Sarah, there has to be a beginning somewhere and so I can anticipate these comps being discussed in full at the AGM in September. If there is a plus then that lays in these comps being played this season and all cups awarded (Winners only at this moment in time) will be awarded at the Presentation do in July.

I certainly think Division 3 will have a far higher turnout.....we could be looking at 6 or 7 from the Seamen, with probably another 2 or 3 from the Ship....I'd be very surprised if the total turnout was under 40....the predraw suggested 125 players, so that would be one-third or better....

Here's hoping!!!
