Entry forms are now out for this prestigious new event to the pool calender!

Aimed purely at amateur players only and as such has a strict qualifying criteria:

No professionals, at any time in the last 5 years.
No Internationals in the last two years.
No 2008 IPA tour players
No-one that has won a ?1000 or been part of any team that has won a ?1000 at any non local league competition or money match in the last couple of years.
In fact everyone that enters hopeful should have a chance!

Forms are now in our clubs, but if any individual or particuarly league secretaries want a batch of forms to distribute to their team captains, please PM me.

Please don't mix this up with the Hainsworth ?10,000 7 man team event or the Hainsworth ?10,000 amateur singles which will be open only to those playing from Rileys clubs.

The four man team event is open to absolutely anyone, from any pub/club and to keep costs down to a minimum ALL early rounds will be played locally and the national final in February will be a one-day event where all 16 qualifiers will already be on at least ?250!

By the way the winners cop a first prize of ?3,000!

Closing dates for entries will be Monday 25th August 2008.
Early round matches will begin W/C Monday 8th September 2008.

So who's entering and who you entering with???

For any further information please PM Hannahfish or call myself at the club on 020 8688 3479

If it is only aimed purely at amateur players why cant Ipa players outside the top 64 play on it? Why the stupid rule about if a team has won a grand?
Howard Miller has got this one completly wrong if you ask me.

You mean your (tiny!) share of a multi way split of the C of C money means you can't go in this comp when some IPA tour players can?

Have you spoken to Howard about this cos it seems nuts!!

Sorry misunderstood you Sean. Does seem very restrictive though but Rileys must know who they are targetting with this competition.

The team winning a grand thing is ridiculous. By the time you've paid everyone you are looking at less than ?150 each - hardly big prize money.

Hannah is that right?

I think Howard is going for the proper grass roots players and not strictly the Amateur/Professional divide to prevent the likes of Carl Morris and Marc Farnsworth slipping through the net . .

With reference to Tolworth & Hot Shots I'm guessing he's taking the angle that it's restricting players from the best pub team in England and one of the best Interleague teams in England and not because an individual ended up with a share of ?17.32

Ok put it another way. How much did you get for winning the Croydon Open? ?330 give or take? Sean picked up less than half of that for the C of C and can't enter this comp. Makes no sense at all.

I'll never get bored of hearing that . . Say it again snigger

I see where you are coming from but I guess the way Rileys see it they're only excluding approximately 100ish extra people, those who were at the business end of the country's' top team competitions and because those players aren't in it they'll get more than 100 extra entries.

That's business at the end of the day . . Whether it works or not remains to be seen but it's another event on the calendar and more money available so it's got to be a good thing for the sport in general . .

It's not always good business though. Many of those 100 or so people will be members of their clubs and be pretty pissed off.

In business it is much harder to find new customers than to retain existing ones. That's why I find the motives behind this a little odd.

It's hard to get a point across here without looking like I'm knocking Howard which I'm really not trying to do. I'm just finding it hard to understand the logic behind this.

Players who cannot enter:

? A current professional in any cue discipline, or any that have been so during the last three years.
? An International player, either currently or in the last two years( This does not apply to B team players, ladies or youths)
? Any player on the 2008 IPA tour
? Any player who in singles events has won more than a ?1000 in the last two years playing pool or who has competed as part of a team that has won that sum during the same period.
? (NB; This limit does not apply to teams winning their local league who may pay out such monies)
? If at any time during the event it is proven that any player has broken any of these qualifying conditions, that player and the team they represent will be immediately disqualified

The intention behind these conditions is to hopefully provide a much more level and competitive playing field from which all participants in all teams right across the UK can genuinely compete, and have a genuine and chance of winning prizes, including the ?3,000 winners cheque!

This competition is purely aimed at people who are normally put off by entering because of the calibre of player entering.

This is no different from doing a comp which excludes 1st division players, its about giving other people a chance.
