We read the fixtures from this sheet Alex:

http://www.croydonpool.com/winter/div1fixturelist.pdf

Also sent out in September 2008. . . . . .
I hope you can see where the confusion lay.

Saw no reason to double check it vs. The Master Fixture list, as assumed it was correct (As one would)
Very rare there is a mistake like this if at all in the CDPL, as it's quite simply, superbly run.
This was a rare exception though.

So. . . . We were all set to go ahead with Monday 21st for our league match, when the Quarter Final Fixtures were released, citing Monday 21st as the date. . . Naturally we were all taken aback, and the conflict in fixture dates has since come to light.

We got our heads together Monday Night when we played eachother in said fixture (1/4 Final) and we have arranged a date to play before the next set of fixtures.

I'm not going to repeat various points made in this thread, as nothing seems to be going anywhere. Your entitled to your opinion Alex, fine with me, all I can do is assure you that there is no gamesmanship involved, not one bit, just sheer coincidence.

Had results gone a different way on tueday night, would so much fuss still be made? I doubt it.

But the fact remains, it will change nothing in the mindset of the two teams. The game will be played exactly as it would have been, with both teams needing each and every frame. Nothing will be easier, no-one will be settling for any pre determined score.

Oh my god this is brilliant....Alex you used the word GAMESMANSHIP, which in the eyes of the casual observer is the same thing as bad sportmanship. You have said I have got my tongue up the Eagles arse and to be honest I cannot deny backing their corner as time and time again they have proven themselves to be the best sports in the league. I have never seen them bitch when they lose, always high in praise for teams who beat them etc etc. I will always back the corner of the person or team who I think has been wronged regardless of who they are. You may recall many moons ago at the AGM which discussed the incident between you and Hughie I stood up and said that violence had no place in a pool league and backed your corner and I stand by that. In this case however your point although looks like a valid one isn't because firstly I fully believe the intentions were honourable and secondly they did this through the correct channels.

If you can maybe find these many people who are bothered by this I would be interested but I am somehow doubting this will happen.

so do you fancy the boxing match ( i am older than you and completely unfit) we could raise a fortune for charity as every body in the league would like to see both of us bashed up. And no hard feelings afterwards

Nuttmeg, sounds interesting. I do fancy a couple of warm up bouts first. Was thinking about Andy Esgrove for starters, when his thumb is better of course. Then maybe Dotcom.

I'll speak to my old management team when I was boxing at England schoolboy international level and see if they can get me back into shape at me old club, Repton Boys Club in the East End. We'll see what we can sort out.

brilliant I have never boxed before so that makes me the underdog lets arrange a date so we can start selling tickets.

Esgrove I would choose your words very wisely I hear your treading on thin ice my pedigree chum. Alex isn't the choir boy your small brain is portraying him as, in fact he's done some proper time inside I believe. And believe me his bite is definately worse than his bite literally, he can be a *******1ing animal if you set him off and believe threatning to knock him out is not a good move esgrove.
And if I'm mistaken esgrove wasn't it a Ginger midget that threw you all round suzies and then put you in a headlock and kicked you outside. I hear your walk home that night was very uncomfortable with sh1t running down your inside legs Where's the pampers esgrove????

Rescheduling of a match at this point in the season is a strange decision on both parts (1 for title aspirations & 1 for relegation) all the points being made about both teams & Mark H agreeing etc is also a bit odd in the circumstances ? I am sure that the League has these rules in place for a valid reason not that 2/3 players like watching fat blokes throwing arrows?..Each to there own, but then to watch as your nearest rivals struggle is a bit off I would say !!

If at this point you want to go on about us re-arranging last years fixture ag the egos for the reason that all bar 2 of us were away that week at Cheltenham for a week of racing, then go for it??But that is the only time I can remember us not being able to fulfil a fixture & requesting for a valid reason to postpone (I of course may be wrong). Then to read it almost cost you the league ? don?t make me laugh, how the fcuk can a talent-less team like the Eden (Sure that was the quote wiggy) possibly have a bearing on whether the mighty ego?s win the division or not. Maybe we should have tried to sign up more players but could not do so & luckily for us the ego's did re-arrange the match - thanks for that & sorry it almost cost you another pot to polish, but I think the point being made is a different 1 - you COULD get the players in to play & chose not to - END OF

This year we had a serious shortage ag a few teams & have fulfilled the fixtures, as a result of that is why we seem to currently be in a relegation scrap - We only have ourselves to blame but am sure we all would like to play the same night at the same time so no advantage/disadvantage can be gained - whichever way it is painted I would rather have all the scores in prior to cueing up, just unfair

And as for the Hugh Telford incident wiggy - don't be a tw@t in bringing that to the table as we all know it was an incident that was dealt with pathetically by the league & probably by a few of your team members on the night & then the aftermath?..As big & clever as it was - in your opinion otherwise why mention it, really I guess Alex walking away rather than getting into a scrap shows all I need to know about our team Capt. & yours & beleive me it could have turned sour if he hadn't of - This was not something that we have ever brought up since that day - I also believe that they have both put this episode behind them, only for you to drag it up for some unknown reason?.I realise down the years for varying reasons our teams have not seen eye to eye, but bringing up an obvious sore point is pathetic in trying to earn some sort of upper hand in this unrelated topic - I guess we all know that Hugh T was lucky to still be allowed to play in the league - but he was that was the decision made & we stick by it, but don't for 1 moment think we are happy about it (But we don't harp on about it years after the event) - It seemed then & seems now it was very much an old boys club decision on how it was dealt with

I see its your birthday today Berty. Many happy returns.

Definition of Gamesmanship:
Art of winning games by psychological means....

Definition of Bad Sportsmanship:
A team or person who behaves unfairly and ungenerously....

Now go back and read my initial posts regarding Sir Tony. He is called Sir Tony because we rate him in this league as Croydon pool's equivalent of Sir Alex Ferguson, who as we all know is a master of playing and delivering the odd gamesmanship card here and there. Now read the Oxford Dictionary's definition of gamesmanship.

I have never said it was bad sportsmanship. It is the likes of Esgrove who has put those words into his own mouth and thats what he wants you all to believe I am implying. I stand by what I said regarding gamesmanship, and psychologically I think the Ego's have now got the upperhand on their title opponents from postponing Tuesday's game. But as I said from an Eden point of view we are more concerned what effect it will have on the Hounds.

The question is did the Ego's cancel the game to gain the psycological edge? Spud, Sir Tony and Shaggy have said that was not the intention. Thats good enough for me.

After reading some of the comments on this thread over the last few days, apparently several Pond players have injured themselves through excessive laughing . I feel that the most prudent way forward would be to seek a postponement of next week's match against the Eden. I wonder if anybody would mind !! Shock

Me and Bronson are very similar. A chip off the old block. Spent many a night behind the doors at her Majesty's pleasure chatting about the 'Esgrove's' of this world.

I normally like to nibble on 'Officers of the Peace', but as a substitute I'm sure Andy's sore thumb is just what the Bronson ordered.....

Christ this is amusing. Id love to win league, especially with Jak not playing, Dan not paying, and half of Kyle and Andy not playing.

It wont kill me if we dont though.

Good luck to everyone else in the league. I hope everyone get what they deserve.

power that is correct fella a good smack up with a screw is much more fun than andy small fry esgrove, how on earth is he going to knock you out if one hand is already out of use and the other wrapped round his *******. andy listen mate correct me if im wrong but did i not witness a lovely little ginger fella give you a beautiful head butt oh yes add to that when you upset another person that you classed as a mate as on that front i recall that you i and other parties were at crystals and you bumped into the person that you upset and when he fronted you you were on your knees cacking it son.i think you got away with that then because the aggrieved man is a gentleman.
i think that you power should do what we done behind the door mate take him in the recess hot water with added sugar/pp9 heavy duty and finsh it once and for all,
