a friend of mine is selling an old joe davis 2501 snooker cue. it is in superb condition, has a mature golden ash shaft and a plain black butt section and is one piece! it is probably around 60-70 years old. when he brought the cue from myself it had just been cleaned up so it really is superb. he is looking for ?130 for this so if anyones interested either let me know on this site or email Gary@ccleasing.co.uk.

Cue was made to commemorate a billiard break of 2501 made by Joe Davis in 1927, and were manufactured up to 1930.

From 1930 onwards snooker became by far the more popular cue sport, and cues were then made promoting snooker breaks.

Joe Davis cues are sought after by collectors with the following cues made to commemorate breaks in the respective years: 105 break in 1930, 114 in 1933, 135 in 1946, 146 in 1950 and 147 in 1955.

The later cues were more regularly machine spliced.

The 2501 should be hand spliced, and in top condition is well worth the ?130. If it has the rarer tombstone shaped badge it is worth more again.

Virtually all Joe Davis cue were made by Peradon.

Nice cue for the collector, and Joe Davis cues tend to play well too, so a viable and more interesting alternative to anything you could buy new for similar money.

I'd buy it, but I already have one cool

Bring it down if you have any matches coming up at Suzy Qs/ Rileys Purley Way. I can't make any promises but I might be interested- I'm looking for a new cue and fancy something a bit different.

Will just have to persuade the girlfriend that she doesn't really want a birthday present! laughing

JP Mannock is the cue I have wanted for ages. Earlier ones had pearwood shaft, supposedly far too whippy to play with these days, but a beautiful cue indeed. They go for way too much dough on eBay, and I'm not spending that much sight unseen.

Maple shafted version was made later by Burroughes and Watts, and are actually worth more because there were less of them made.

My current playing cue is a JP Mannock replica made by Trevor White. Same woods as original: ebony and tulipwood butt, with thuya burr splicing, shaft maple rather than pearwood though.
