apparently it was a feiry evening at the elmer. 3-1 down the coney had not missed a shot. spry makes it 3-2. saxton steps up all kinds of controvercy over a jump shot / not jump shot their guy leaves him an impossible black down the rail. saxton gets it. they pick him again he wins. coney in the next round and all kinds of arguments still going on. Glad I missed it but big up the sexy saxton

All ended fairly amicably. Apart from 2 usual suspects they were a really top group of blokes and once again probably wonder how they left without a win. We knew they had a good top order and we really didn't play at all badly to be 3-1 down. My bloke dished from the break so was hoping they might pick me again but that was left to the Saxtonator. At 3-2 down he played a 1 in 20 pot to make it 3-3. He then turns to me and says 'I'll be really pissed off if they pick me again after that' and 2 seconds later he's picked again. A very tense frame followed but he pulled out one hell of a positional shot to give himself a straight black along the rail. He doesn't miss those so 4-3 to the Coney. I would like to apologise to the Addicts though for instinctively calling a foul when i wasn't reffing. I, like the rest of my team, believed that if the white jumped over a ball it was a foul. Their player was on the black, miscued and the white hit the top of the black and jumped over it. In the old rules that used to be a foul but seemingly not in World Rules. Thanks to the refs and to their team for letting the refs get on with their job and make the right call. Aside from the controversy, well played Ansell and to Saxton, who was a real hero tonight! Bye next round please...

To be fair Spudangles, it's not the Leagues fault that this change in the comp has come about.

The Croydon & District Pool League has always been run by the people, for the people. The poor mugs on the Committee simply carry out what the majority of eligible votes call for.

The League was simply trying to do what was asked of it. Bottom line is; it hasn't worked.

Damned if you do & damned if you don't. rolling eyes

I don't think I ever got an answer to my question about why we played a prelim when there was a bye in the next round. For that reason alone the system is flawed.

Are you sure? Jump shots were fouls last time I looked.

Sorry Sass, you got that wrong.

We actually just scraped a 4 3 win against bye.

Enjoyable evening.

Good luck to the bye for the rest of the season.

I will be advocating at the half general meeting that all entries are entered into the comps in the first round (including 1st div players) in future to do away with the farce that is running at the mo. The fundamentals behind the plate comps I am in total agreement with but the practicalities of running it with the present conditions just does not work. So you being a brain surgeon n all that ... work this into a tidy little comp ... 62 1st Div players - 147 others

The 62 Div 1 players get a bye into last 128. That leaves 66 spaces to fill. Multiply that by 2 = 132, that gives the number of players needed in the 1st round (last 256). Take 132 from 147 = 15, which is the number of matches needed in the prelim.

I'm off to perform a frontal lobotomy.

we won 4-1 with no Jake and no Shaggy I came out of retirement (hence the -1:lolSmile.as always playing the Maple tree (the old manor A) we had an enjoyable evening against a good team on a strange slow 6 x 3 table, nice to see Gordon Beard still dipping his toe in the pool.
