Carly and myself are out of the doubles as Carly has a sports injury from work and our opponents weren't prepared to re-arrange.

Hopefully there will be some better news from the rest of my team.

darren porter & omar aslam won 2 - 0 against spencer barnes & paul picton
we played well and took our chances when they were there. but unlucky to the losing pair who had the worst luck with a few bad shots and in offs. good luck for the rest of the summer.handshakehandshake

When did you contact Clive Forrest and Corrine Grattan of the Better Halfs to let them know you couldn't make it Sassy?

If it was reasonable notice, then that's terrible sportsmanship. Can't believe people still do that. (Well, outside of the Imperials, that is . . . Wink )

Claiming games is the way forward . . It's almost as satisfying as cheating . .

Deliberately hadn't posted the names as I play county with Corrine and by all accounts she was prepared to re-arrange.

Carly rang me yesterday morning at 10.30 having just injured herself. I immediately called Steve (their team secretary) saying that we certainly couldn't play that evening and could we re-arrange. He called me back about 8.30pm saying that Corrine would re-arrange but Clive wasn't happy as he'd turned up for the match.

What is even more annoying about this one is that we'd turned up to play them 2 weeks earlier on a league night and offered to play the match early only for Clive to say no to that too.

I only went in this comp in the first place to give Carly a partner, but since then we had a good win in round one against a Div One pairing and felt maybe we could go a round or two further.

Honestly can't see myself bothering with the knockouts in future if this is the way people want to win matches Sad

I heard a little rumour last night that a certain young Prop player had to forfeit his singles match against a player from the Better Halfs because he was too young to enter the pub in the evening, and the player wouldn't rearrange.

I know their Sec really well - talk to your team, Steve!! Your team will get a reputation!!no

Never thought for a second that Corrine wouldn't have been prepared to rearrange.

If you phoned at 10.30 in the morning, then why/how did it take their Secretary 10 hours to contact the player?

We played them in a friendly and it was a good laugh. The likes of Keeley, Laurie and Chris are a good bunch - I can only gather Clive Forrest either wasn't there or was one of the blokes I played, in which case I can understand why he'd claim, as otherwise he wouldn't see another round. . .

Whatever the reasoning, it's poor form. They're a nice team and as the Teach says, it'd be horrid for the decent players to be tarred with the same brush as these apparent idiots.

Sad

That's proper moody . . It's amazing what being scared of losing to a 13yr old does to a player!

Thanks for that, as you said you took your chances and we didn't. Luck comes and luck goes, it's out at the moment but I'm sure I'll patch up my relationship with lady luck before too long.

Well played last night, 2-1 would have been nice but I don't think I can honestly say we deserved more than that.

Good luck for the rest of the season. thumb
