Gary Swettenham v Rod Altes

I suppose it was inevitable that my tip for the title gets the tough draw this round but he's full of confidence at the moment so is certainly capable of getting through to the Semi's - Gary 3-2 Rod

Chris Snyman v Ricky Cook

I've heard a lot of good things about Chris Snyman and although he wasn't that spectacular against the Crouching Chicken in the cup you could tell he knows what he's doing - Chris 3-1 Ricky

Paul Da Silveira v Paul Richards

The result will be dictated by the type of match . . If it's slow and tactical then Da Silveira will edge it but if it's open then Richards is capable of having this over within 20 minutes - Toss of a Coin

Luke Willsher/Chris Brooker v Ian Chapman

Does anyone know who won out of Luke and Chris? Either way, Chapman is the defending champion and having beaten Brooker en route to that win he'll be confident on moving one step closer to repeating his 2007 success - Whoever 1-3 Chapman

swetts 1-3 altes
garys capable of winning this on his day but i just think rods been there done it and will probably do it again.
snyman 1 v 3 cook
no idea who chris is but ricky being a team mate and full of confidence will iron him out
de silveira 3 v 2 richards
tight match to call but think home advantage and more table time will tell.
wilsher/brooker 2 v 3 chapman
another possible close match if brooker gets through but ian to win whoever he plays

My predictions.....

Swettenham v Altes
Tie of the round, and not sure what Gary's win record is against Rod but I'd say Gary has to fly out of the traps or its all over. If you look at who is left in draw, Rod is 'odds on' to win the tournament even at this stage. After all, its hard not to notice that Altes has been involved in 4 of the last 5 Croydon singles finals (Winter & Summer). Rod to win 3-1.

Synman v Cook
I've only ever seen Ricky play once or twice and I recall he can play a bit. I know nothing about Chris, never seen him play. Home advantage may play a big factor in the outcome of this one so a fair prediction as I don't know Chris is to say this match will go the distance.

Da Silveira v Richards
I've been impressed with PR for a few seasons now and he certainly possesses the game to win the tournament overall. Only down side is tatically he can play a bit lose at times. Contrast of styles this match. PDS is not a reknown potter but tactically is good. If he can control the pace of the match and tie PR in a few knots then PDS has a big chance to make the last 4. Richards to nick it 3-2.

Wilsher/Brooker v Chapman
Safe money is Chris will come through his tie with Luke to play Ian in the last 8. If so, then again hard match to call. Ian has put up a good defence and is the only one left in the field that has taken out Altes when it really matters. Chris regularly makes it to the latter stages and maybe this will be his year. Real difficult to call but I'll go with Ian who will start a slight favourite. 3-1 Ian.
